Actress Indira Krishna who was recently seen in the role of Paani Bai in Colors’ Durga, is happy as she celebrates yet another year of Pongal. Pongal is celebrated today, down South. It is a festival of harvesting, wherein farmers seek prayers and blessings for their fields to yield the best of crops all throughout the year.
Emphasizing the traditions around Pongal, Indira elaborates saying, “Pongal has been a very big festival for me every year. I do pray for the prosperity of people so that they are happy. It is a big festival for farmers down South. They use the sugarcane, make turmeric rice, and offer it to God. They pray for their fields to yield a very good harvest every year. It is a beautiful festival down South as they loudly say ‘Pongal O Pongal’ which specifies the importance of harvesting and carrying on in the mood of prosperity.”
Indira follows the custom of celebrating Pongal and says, “I do keep a piece of sugarcane, and make turmeric rice, which is called Pongal. People also make ven pongal, which is sweet pongal with jaggery. They pray to the Goddess that the farmers get prosperous through their yields in the fields they grow. People offer prayers to the Sun God.”
Indira was recently seen in the powerful role of Paani Bai in Colors’ Durga. Her emphatic screen presence and strong hold on her character are worth applauding.
