Actor Ishaan Dhawan has taken giant strides as a performer, accepting roles that challenge him as a performer. He emphasizes that his goal when choosing new characters, is to never pick up similar roles. Presently, Ishaan plays the lead role of Maan Thakur in Colors’ show Doree 2. The character has all the depth in it, with the man bottling up his emotions and working his way as a lawyer, even if it means not using the righteous approach always.

Says Ishaan, “The challenge is not to appear as Kabir (Zindagi Mere Ghar Aana), Neel (Gud Se Meetha Ishq) and Dhruv (Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Se Pare) when I play Maan Thakur. This has been my challenge always to not bring the characteristics of my earlier roles into play, into the new role I take up. I am happy if I give a new character a unique different trajectory to build on.”

Talking about Maan Thakur, Ishaa avers, “Maan is quite complex. He is a man who has never been brought up with love by his parents. He has grown with the agony of missing his mother, and seeing his father going astray, leading the life of a carefree alcoholic. Maan is the closest to his Dadi, and shares a very emotional bond with her. She is the only person with whom he can open up.”

It is important to constantly learn and unlearn. Being an actor who gets opportunities to move away from one role and accept another, there is a need to start afresh and don a new perceptive whenever it is required.

“Maan Thakur is a lawyer who looks at everything with a viewpoint of winning it. He can bend laws in his favour and does not believe in being righteous; all that matters to him is being successful in his task,” he adds.

Ask Ishaan whether Maan Thakur is the most serious role he has taken up, and he is quick to say, “Dhruv in Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Se Pare was a more serious-minded character than Maan is. Dhruv had seen a lot of pain in his life and had become the brooding person that he was. As for Maan, I would say that he is more intense when compared to Dhruv.”

On the learnings that the industry has taught him, Ishaan points out, “It is important to constantly learn and unlearn. Being an actor who gets opportunities to move away from one role and accept another, there is a need to start afresh and don a new perceptive whenever it is required.”

Ishaan recollects the toughest challenge he faced earlier in his career. “When I was doing Zindagi Mere Ghar Aana, I could not emote for good. I was getting told and corrected a lot by the Director. This was a challenging moment for me, where I told myself that only hard work and perseverance to get better in my craft, can make me confident. Acting is a field where you learn every day. I am happy to make the finetuning at every given opportunity to be a better performer.”

Most importantly, Ishaan is happy that he has had the opportunity to be a part of the socially relevant concept Doree 2. “I like how the show addresses these societal taboos. The story ahead in Doree 2 will be an engaging watch for viewers.”

Best of luck!!
