What comes to your head when you think about India Television series? Dramatic effects and background music, some really innocent characters and a super cruel villain-type character who always wants to target and destroy those innocent characters. Well, television serials have evolved in the past few years and apart from these standard themes, they’ve begun to offer much more.
Indian television serials have evolved a lot in the past few decades and many things have changed and developed. The one thing constant about Indian serials is the negative characters which are mostly a lady character, and that’s why they are also known the vamps. Previously vamps were depicted with big bindis on their forehead and dressed in dark coloured clothes, and with an overall creepy look.
But modern day vamps are way different than that! They are much more sophisticated and are miles away from looking creepy. In fact it is so easy to fall for a vamp nowadays, because her charm just reels you in. It’s just the thinking and the actions of the character that makes her frightening and gives viewers that chilling experience. Janhvi (Ek Bhram) and Komolika (Kasautii Zindagii Kay) are the two modern day vamps who are super successful due to the actresses playing the role. Shrenu Parikh is nailing the role of sweet and bitter Janhvi while Hina Khan brought a whole new flavour to television’s favourite vamp Komolika.
Hina Khan fits the description of Komolika so very well and also adds an exclusive negative flavour to the whole play. Shrenu Parikh has, on the other hand, created a whole new aura for her character of Janhvi and audience is totally digging ths new age vamp. Pretty tough deciding who the ultimate vamp is, isn’t it?
