Sehban Azim, who plays Jennifer Winget’s dead husband in the recently launched Colors show Bepannaah, is a budding writer as well. He writes a lot of poetry on social media.
“Friend Karan Wahi has promised me that he will publish a book, once I complete 50 poems. I am close to that mark now,” says Sehban.
Sehban comes from a literary, Delhi-based family. “My mom (Dr Nigar Azim) is a well-known, progressive, women’s writer. So we would have greats like Kaifi Azmi, Ali Sardar Jaffari, etc. coming to our place, right from childhood. Mom did her PhD on the great Saadat Hasan Manto. So, right from childhood, I was privy to discussions on Premchand and Manto, which, though very heavy for a child, would always pique my interest. I have always been a fan of Hindi and English stories.”
Despite literary leanings, Seheban went on to do computer engineering. “I had a secure job in a well-known MNC. But after a while, my artistic side wanted expression; hence, I became an actor. Luckily, my family supported me whole-heartedly. Their funda was- our responsibility was to equip you to face the world. Now it’s your life; but yes, follow whatever you do with passion.”
He first started with cinema, “But it never clicked. Then I got Dil Mil Gaye. I have never looked back since.”
Here, he admits that at first, he did have qualms about doing TV. “But I am glad that I took that stand. It has been a satisfying journey, doing different kind of characters-Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Humsafars, Udaan and Thapki Pyaar Ki, over the years.”
Besides writing, Sehban is a reader as well. “Currently, I am reading Tarun Tejpal, but he is too open about his revolutionary thoughts. Recently, I read the Paulo Coelho book on second chances, which is also what Bepannaah is all about.”
Here, he has no qualms that he has not yet become an A list star. “I am happy with my lot. I am not insecure about my role length, and neither do I bother about my co-actors’ graph.”
In closing, Sehban smartly ducked media question about his personal equation with Jennifer. It is rumoured that the two are seeing other. “Jenny is a very good friend and adviser. We have a huge group, which also boasts of Pooja Sharma, Aishwarya Sakhuja, and last but not the least, Wahi as well. We have become family, for we need support, and I can’t rush to mom in Delhi, every time.”
Rightly said, Sehban!!
