Many Telly Stars in the past have spoken about the biases they face in Bollywood. Recently, Hina Khan spoke up after she was not invited to the Indian Pavilion despite being there at the Cannes Film Festival 2022. Backing her claim was actress Devoleena Bhattacharya. And now, Jennifer Winget has opened up too.
There’s no denying that opportunities for TV actors have increased in Bollywood. We all have witnessed Shantanu Maheshwari bagging a crucial role in Gangubai Kathiyawadi. According to reports, Shehnaaz Gill and Siddharth Nigam will be seen in Salman Khan’s movie Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali. While Radhika Madan and Mrunal Thakur have also bagged the lead roles in movies.
Jennifer in her last interview said it is not that TV actors don’t have any image in Bollywood. They often get to hear that you are over-exposed, and are considered in certain kinds of roles. This was happening a lot earlier, but slowly the line is getting blurred, still, it has not gone away fully. The Film Industry has started looking at TV stars in different ways that they can also do if we get the opportunity.
However, Jennifer Winget is hopeful that good days are coming and things will change soon. Still, there are people in the industry who do not give opportunities to TV stars and she thinks they need to get aware and start taking risks. What pandemic resulted is that it has evolved the audience and so content and cinema are evolving. It is a matter of a few years and that blurred line will fade away. When people will proudly talk about working with TV stars and engaging on a larger level.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Winget made her Bollywood debut with Phir Se opposite Kunal Kohli which was released on OTT due to copyright issues.
