Former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev was born on January 6, 1959, and is better known by his stage name. In 2002, Wisden named him the Indian Cricketer of the Century. The Indian cricket squad that won the 1983 Cricket World Cup was led by Kapil Dev. He coached India’s national cricket team between October 1999 and August 2000. He held the world record for the most Test cricket wickets taken when he retired in 1994; Courtney Walsh eventually surpassed it in 2000. He was also India’s leading wicket-taker in both the Test and ODI formats at the time. On their wedding day, Kapil Dev is pictured with his wife, Romi.
The first player with 200 ODI wickets is him. One of the finest all-rounders to ever play the game, he is the only player in cricket history to have taken more than 400 wickets (434 wickets) and scored more than 5000 runs in Tests.
