After impressing us on TV and films, Karanvir Bohra is all set to move to the new frontier of web as well.
“There is something that will shake India. I can’t share any more details yet. Things are on the move for sure.
Karanvir, who has been around TV for over 18 years, describes web as occupying the middle ground between films and TV. “While it might not have the cinematic brilliance, it is certainly not taken for granted like TV as well. Also, today tube is not as high-paying as before for most, except for a few ones like us.”
KV ( friends call Karanvir that) also does not feel too perturbed by the overdose of s*x and violence on web. “Let’s face it, s*x sells and the new platform does require eyeballs. Having said that, where I draw the line is at making virtual porn. There is no harm in showing lovemaking, which is a very important emotion as part of the narrative, but it can’t be the be all and end all.”
KV, who was last seen in the latest season of Big Boss, does not mind returning to TV, “But it needs to be something substantial. I need author backed roles.” His other well-known shows have been Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Dil Se Di Dua… Saubhagyavati Bhava, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 5, Naagin 2, etc.
Here, KV informs us that his long-delayed home film production will finally hit the theatres by June July.” “As a single producer, the biggest challenge is to get a release partner. Right now I am in talks with a few biggies and something will click soon.”
Prior to this, KV has acted in Kismat Konnection and Mumbai 125 KM.
When asked as to whether the film will look a bit jaded due to the time factor (three years), he says, “Buyers were so impressed by the freshness that they thought I had completed the film only six months back. There were a number of issues that led to the delay.”
“The digital media has come as a blessing in disguise for smaller producers like me, for we have an additional revenue stream over and above traditional theatrical and satellite. Rather than wasting your money on having a mass release, which might fetch you nothing, the smart thing would be to limit the initial release to around 200-300 screens and then gradually increase the screen count if the film clicks through word of mouth,” added KV, who comes from a family of distributors and producers, hence knows his maths.
In closing, KV says that his biopic on ex-Congress President, Sonia Gandhi’s romance with husband and former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi will only take off after the elections. “I don’t want to wade into political waters.”
