Eijaz Khan, who rose to fame by playing the lead in Balaji Telefilms serials Kkavyanjali and Kyaa Hoga Nimmo Kaa, will be seen playing the role of ‘Shatrughan’ in Tara from Satara on Sony Entertainment Television. Shatrughan will be seen as a judge in the show Dancer No. 1.

In an exclusive chat with IWMBuzz, Eijaz talks his heart out about his new character and show in a rare in-depth interview. Excerpts:

What made you accept the role of Shatrughan in Tara From Satara?

I kind of manifested that I wanted to be a judge of a reality show (Laughs!). When I was offered the role, I was in a dilemma if I should do it or not, but I understood the concept quite well as I am trained dancer myself.

Secondly, the story of Tara From Satara is quite intriguing and I feel that the writer and the makers have put in a lot of hard work in making this a success. It is something to which all can relate and is a new concept on television. I am also glad to work with senior actors like Upendra Limaye and Amita Khopkar on the show.

Tara from Satara also has many young talents in dance whom you would be judging. What are your views on them?

Yes, the show has young talents and while I have seen them perform in the show, I will be seeing them live for the first time and I am looking forward to it. When it comes to my role as a judge, personally I want to judge them with an unbiased mind, and as a character (Shatrughan Mehra), I would want to see the journey of all the performers and witness what they achieve. It is going to be very interesting to see what comes out of it naturally.

What makes this role different from the previous roles you have done?

With every role that I have played, I tend to amplify a few aspects of my personality. This one brings out the dancer in me as I have never acted as a dancer on show or as a choreographer. I am letting myself be as organic as a dancer and though I have let my art take over in different shows, in this I am trying to see organically what the character really wants to do. Apart from this, the role is very strong and it holds a lot of responsibilities and value.

You would be seen performing a special dance in round 3 of Dancer no. 1, so what is your take on it?

I don’t know how it is going to be as I am recovering from typhoid. My only motto is to have fun on stage and in the show.

What is your take on the new dramality concept?

On Indian television, this kind of a genre has come for the first time. Kudos to the producers to bring this kind of show on television. Everyone here is trying to add novelty to the show and audience has been generous enough to accept this show. I am excited to be a part of this.
