Vin Rana is among the few lucky actors to comfortably juggle two shows across different channels. He had been part of Balaji Telefilms’ super hit Zee TV show, Kumkum Bhagya, for a while, and recently became one of the main leads of Balaji’s other new supernatural Colors show, Kawach Mahashivratri.
Saus Vin, “It is because of the same production house that my dates are very easily managed; otherwise it would have been very stressful. But yes, I need to make sure to be in the right frame of mind, for both characters are as different as chalk and cheese.”
“In Kumkum Bhagya, I am the brother of the lead, Abhi (Shabir Ahluwalia), while Kavach sees me as the supernatural power creating all the issues for the lead girl (Deepika Singh) and her family.”
“Playing a ghost with a layered agenda is fun and I always want to try out varied roles.”
He had earlier done Vishkanya, Ek Hasina Thi, etc. Here Vin admits that his role in Kumkum Bhagya had to be reduced, with the recent generation leap bringing forward the grown up children of Abhi and Pragya, i.e. Prachi and Rhea. “Not only mine, but the roles of all other characters had to be reduced in a bid to establish the characters and credentials of dusri peedhi. But now, slowly things are coming back to even keel,” adds Vin.
“For the moment, my character Purab is caught between two women, Disha (Ruchi Suvarn) and Aliya (Shikha Singh). But his heart still beats for his estranged wife who has come back after leaving him.”
Here Vin accepts that certain sections of Kumkum Bhagya fans are not happy with the entry of Mugdha Chaphekar and Naina Singh as next gen leads. “Viewers need to understand that whatever the writers pen, it is for the betterment of the show. Agreed, all opinions need to be respected, but the fact that we are still #1 means that most fans love the current track.”
“I believe Kumkum Bhagya is a blessed show. No wonder it has lasted five years. By now, the characters have become so enduring that the story does not even get affected by IPL and cricket, which is a bug bear for most GEC dramas.”
In closing, Vin says that he has great friendship with both Sriti Jha and Shabir. “The latter and I share rooms. We three have become very close.”
Best of luck, Vin!!
