What is the significance of Lohri to you?

Lohri holds great significance in our country as it marks the end of winter and the beginning of the harvest season. For farmers and rural communities, it’s a time of gratitude, as crops are considered sacred and a blessing from nature. This festival beautifully highlights the importance of celebrating nature’s bounty.

How have you celebrated the festival over the years?

Like everyone else, I celebrated Lohri and Makar Sankranti by flying kites during my childhood. However, since moving to Mumbai, I haven’t been able to celebrate the festival much due to work commitments.

What are plans like for this year’s celebration?

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to celebrate Lohri this year as work will keep me occupied. It will be more of a working celebration for me.

Have you taken part in kite flying during this festival? How good are you at it? Any special memories?

Yes, I used to take part in kite flying with my brothers. While they flew the kites, I would hold the phirki (spool). I loved the excitement of watching someone’s kite get cut. Those were some of the most fun and cherished memories from my childhood.

What are the delicacies you like to eat during this festival?

One of the most delightful parts of Lohri is the variety of sweets shared among families. These festive treats always take me back to my childhood and bring a wave of nostalgia.

Any customary wish you have during this time of the year?

I would like to wish everyone a happy Lohri and hope they have a great year ahead. Take care of your health and mental health because health is wealth. Considering today’s environmental issues, pollution, and stress levels, it is very important to stay healthy and eat healthy.
