Radhika Muthukumar who plays the role of Vrinda, the mother pining for her child in Shemaroo Umang’s new and unique concept Main Dil Tum Dhadkan, is upbeat about the relatability factor that her character has in the show. Playing today’s Yashoda Maa comes easily to her, considering her love for children.
In a candid and exclusive chat with IWMBuzz.com, Radhika takes us through the nuances of her character, and talks about the show’s concept at length. Read here.
Tell us about the concept of the show Main Dil Tum Dhadkan?
The protagonist in the show is today’s Yashoda Ma pining for her child. My personal take is that whether it is Yashoda or Devika, a mother is a mother in any case. A mother’s love is the same and has the same blend of love, concern and scoldings when needed. Even in real life, I am massi to my sister’s kids. However, the love that I show is nothing less than a mother. This is exactly what I want to portray through my role.
What are the learnings you have got in your career?
I can see the growth in me over the years as an actor. I have become a lot more serious in this profession. I enjoy my work. I have learned a lot from my senior actors. When in front of the camera, I have learned how to get into the mood of the character.
Experimental shows are not usually accepted on TV. Your take on it.
Yes, it does not work at times. Having said this, my previous show Kya Haal Mr Panchaal was an experimental show, with a man having 5 wives. But that worked, and people loved it. It had a comic angle. This show is a different concept altogether. The child has a blood relationship with the father, but the mother has also showered her love for all the years towards this kid. I think there are a lot of people in real life who can connect with this concept.
There are many options for viewers today to enjoy their time. Do you think this extra accessibility of various platforms has affected ratings on TV?
Yes, it is affecting the TV audience a little bit. However, some people do not want to watch movies and shows on the OTT platforms. There are TV audiences also. We are trying our level best to get the TV audience as well as the OTT audience to watch our show. This is a fresh take on TV, we are putting a lot of effort into presenting this show.
Shows end in less than 3 months on TV. What do you think is the reason?
Today’s audiences are realistic in their thought process. Today’s generation probably does not relate much to what we are showing on TV. We need to get more realistic in what we are showing them.
Tell us about shooting with the kid and Zohaib?
Kanha and Keshav have been good. We are serious during scenes and enjoy a lot when the shooting is not on. Our good offscreen bond has helped in our onscreen chemistry. I hope and pray that our show is received well.
