Talented actor Ashwin Kaushal who has donned varied characters for the big screen including movies Damini, Ghulaam, Jaanam Samjha Karo, Bhootnath Returns etc will play a very interesting role in Star Bharat’s show, Ek Thi Rani, Ek Tha Raavan produced by Suzana Ghai’s Panorama Entertainment.
Ashwin will play the role of the male lead’s uncle, by name Duryodhan Mama who is popularly called Lollypop Mama.
Says Ashwin, “The character will have a comic element, and will dwell into dark comedy. In such roles the characters stand out usually. The mama is a crook, who can change colour depending on who is in power. He has a split personality, and cannot be trusted. He is money-minded and loves to create fights at home.”
Ashwin feels that this character is very relatable as the society around has such people in real. “They are basically mentally sick people who love these kinds of dark situations. We can see such people around us. They cannot see the happiness of other people.”
Ashwin Kaushal believes that content is the king on TV. “TV is basically for the home audience. We then have the digital platform which is trying to compete with films. And we have films which have become larger than life. The best part is that serials depend on good content to do well. Ek Thi Rani, Ek Tha Raavan is a family drama with a difference. I feel positive about the show and I hope viewers too feel positive and love it. The show is being shot well. Characterizations are very clear. The producers are very good, and the team is leaving no stone unturned. The flood gates will open on 21 January. The public known better and they will give out the result soon.”
On his character, Ashwin avers, “He is called Lollypop Mama because he is always licking into his lollypop. Even when he talks, he takes relevance from his lollypop eating habit.”
Ashwin Kaushal started his career in Chennai, Tamil Nadu with K. Balachander’s movie Phoolon Ka Rishta which was a remake of the popular Tamil movie Puthu Puthu Arthangal. In Hindi, his first role of acclaim was Damini where he played the character of Rishi Kapoor’s brother. He has also been part of Amitabh Bachchan starrer movie, Sooryavansham.
On his long journey down South, Ashwin states, “I miss working for the South market. I will love to be part of the industry again. I will love to do character roles of substance in South Indian films. I enjoy and like the work of Prakash Raj who is a big name in the South industry.”
