Actress Radhika Muthukumar who plays the lead in Shemaroo Umang’s show Main Dil Tum Dhadkan, has splendid memories of Navratri from her childhood. Coming from a South Indian Tamil family, Radhika has seen through the tradition of her mother organizing ‘Golu’ every year during Navratri. For the uninitiated, Bommai Golu is the tradition of displaying dolls and figurines during the nine-night Hindu festival of Navratri. Radhika recollects her fond memories of Navratri as she talks to us.
Says Radhika, “Navratri celebrations have a special place in my heart as my mother used to keep Golu. We worship God for nine days, and invite ladies and small girls (kanyas) to the house for Golu. We give them prasad and gifts. Whenever there was a Golu kept at home, it was an opportunity for me to meet extended family, friends and close people.”
Ask her about her plans for Navratri this year, and she says, “I will pray to God for my show Main Dil Tum Dhadkan. It has just started and has a promising story plot. I should be working during Navratri. So work will be worship for me. I usually don’t get time to go to temples, but always keep thinking of God and praying.”
On the special prayer for Navratri this year, Radhika states, “I pray that girls feel safe and secure in this world. This is what I sincerely aspire for.”
