The habit of book reading is a must in today’s time! It not only keeps the mind occupied constructively but also offers clear knowledge derived from this reading practice. Today, being celebrated all over as World Book Day, 23 April, actress Akanksha Chamola who plays the role of Manvi in Zee TV’s Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gaye, gets talking about her being an avid book reader.

Says Akanksha Chamola, “One of the most impactful books I have ever read is the Bhagavad Gita. It’s more than just a scripture — it’s a timeless guide that helps me understand myself better and navigate the complexities of life with greater clarity and purpose.”

“I often turn to the teachings of our great sages and maharishis whenever I feel the need to pause, reflect, or realign with my inner self. I also love reading spiritual books like Ami Ganatra’s versions of the Mahabharata and Ramayana, which beautifully connect ancient wisdom with contemporary thought,” she adds.

Akanksha likes to read books from the mystery genre too. “Outside of that, I have a real fascination with murder mysteries, true crime, and psychological thrillers. These books give me a gripping plot, and I am hooked! Authors like Sidney Sheldon, Patricia Cornwell, Gillian Flynn, Agatha Christie, and Freida McFadden are among my absolute favourites. And of course, Sherlock Holmes will always have a special place in my heart — I admire the sharp intellect and the thrill of unravelling a complex case.”

Emphasizing the need to give time for book reading amid her daily chores, Akanksha says, “For me, reading is more than just a hobby — it’s a deeply personal experience that fuels my curiosity, expands my thinking, and keeps me grounded. This World Book Day, I encourage everyone to explore the genres that truly speak to them. Whether it’s spiritual wisdom or a good old whodunnit, there’s a book out there waiting to change your perspective.”
