Talented actor Rahuol Lohani, who played the negative lead in Shashi Sumeet Productions’ show Mitegi Lakshmanrekha on &TV, says playing a rapist was challenging for him.
Says the actor, “This is my first show with Shashi Sumeet Productions. Sumeet is a very dear friend and we were supposed to work on a comedy show but unfortunately that didn’t happen. However, one day, I went to his office and the casting director Sohan told me to audition for the role. I was not keen but I did it. I remember I played a rapist earlier in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi wherein the victim was Mouni Roy. I was a mentally challenged guy, who is madly in love with Mouni’s character. That was a challenging task and again taking up this show was a big challenge. Then Sumeet said that I can pull off this character really well and hence I chose it. I then took reviews from all the people related to the show, the director, writer and producer and made my character graph. I was convinced that I was playing a strong role.”
He further adds, “I was initially apprehensive, as in the show, I am a father and in real life too I have a 6 year old daughter. So playing a rapist was a challenge. It was emotionally difficult to pick the role. As after seeing such a role, audience will always wish to kill the character. The show had a lot of potential but if it had been on a better time slot, we would have survived. The competition at that time was high.”
When asked was the family apprehensive to let him take up the role, he avers, “I don’t prefer that my daughter watch my show as she is too young to understand anything. I remember in my previous show, when I fell down in a scene, she started crying and when I came back home, she asked me if I was hurt. It was really emotional. Kids connect fast as they don’t know that we are acting. Rape is a big thing and she can’t understand anything as of now. However, I feel as an actor you should be ready for all kinds of challenging roles as they help in raising the acting graph.”
Lastly, he shares, “I only want to do positive or negative lead roles as eventually the story revolves around these characters on TV. They have a scope to perform and I am a hungry actor. I want to perform for my audience.”
Good luck, Rahuol!
