At my position I need to be very careful about the kind of projects I choose: Jay Soni

Immensely talented and god looking Jay Soni, last seen in a comic avatar in Colors’ show Bhaag Bakool Bhaag, is taking a small TV break.

“For the moment I am shooting for my upcoming Gujarati film along with Shrenu Parekh, plus going  overseas to ring in the New Year.  Hence, will look at TV only in 2018,” says Jay to IndianWikiMedia.

“The main reason for doing Gujarati films is that today this western Indian regional industry has  changed, they are making more urban based plots.   At my position I need to be very careful about the kind of projects I choose, nothing run of the mill, .i.e. three college going friends and some jokes.  Gujarati cinema is known for its  classy dialogues.   And the director of our  film is a well known dialogue writer himself, so I know I am in safe hands.  Our Gujarat milieu rooted emotional drama will touch a chord with all.”

As for TV Jay says, “After Bakool,  I am getting  lots of  comic offers,  I want to do the light genre but not restrict to it. Bakool  helped me break the notion that I am only a good daily soap actor, it also showcased my comic bone.  It is not easy to bring out all that energy, at the end of shoot I would be completely drained out, but overall great fun,” says Jay,  who has earlier done hit shows like Sasural Genda Phool,  Sanskaar – Dharohar Apno Ki and Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi etc.

Jay  is also open to more Hindi film projects, a film or two had not worked out. “I am always hungry for performance oriented roles and hence, when see great actor essaying superb filmy roles, I too want to join the bandwagon. I  will not do bit stuff just to be seen. Similarly, I want to do meaty characters on the tube as well and luckily, now situation is such that you have a performance oriented shows they are bound to do well.”

Besides TV,  Jay is also open to web format. “For, it also throws up a lot  performance oriented concepts.  All film biggies are also entering the digital scene. The future is digital.  As of now I don’t have anything in the web series kitty, the moment I land something  juicy enough will grab it with  both hands for sure.”

We wish him success.
