The positive step mother-daughter equation has worked in favour of Tujhse Hai Raabta: Poorva Gokhale

Poorva Gokhale of Zee TV show, Tujhse Hai Raabta is taking the lockdown woes in her stride. “This is giving me family time; otherwise, I would have never agreed to stay at home. Since we live with in-laws my and brother-in-law, my kids are having a blast.”

Shifting gears to Tujhse Hai Raabta, Poorva acknowledges that not only her unit, but all shows will need to buckle once the lockdowns lift to retain loyal fans.

Furthermore, she is in constant touch with her co-stars. “Not all are lucky to be with family, so do get depressed in such challenging times. I hope we get back to work with compromises (shoot at home or limited crews) by mid- June for the industry was already reeling under tough time, and this could make matters worse.”

So what makes your show tick?

“I guess the positive step mother-daughter equation. In most such stories, the stepmom always has to be evil. Kalyani (Reem Sheikh) has also helped Anupriya (my character) grow in confidence. Here I must doff my hat to producer Sonali Jaffar and Zee TV for keeping the acting natural in the face of high drama emotions, also involving husband and boyfriend.”

Poorrva, who has returned to Hindi TV after a decade, says, “Today’s narratives have become much faster. Earlier even if you missed a week’s telecast you would not be at sea. The other big change is the shift from saas-bahu to social dramas.”

Can we see a glut in mythological shows post-Ramayan’s gigantic re-run and will you be part of such projects?

“This extra hard-work genre always has done well. But outside Mumbai sets make it impossible for someone with young kids. I have let pass several films for the same reason.”
