I was very clear of shaving off my head to play the genie in Aladdin: Raashul Tandon

Raashul Tandon who essays the role of the ever-friendly genie in SAB TV’s new offering, Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga produced by Peninsula Pictures is happy and glad that the opening numbers have motivated them to give their best shot.

Says Raashul, “The role of a genie does not come easily and when I got it, I was determined to give it my best. I had to go through an acting work shop in order to get the nuances of the characters right. This genie in Aladdin is very different from what the normal perception of a genie is. He is very human-like, very natural in his approach. He has a child-like innocence and there is nothing in him that is over the top.”

The day he decided to play the genie, Raashul was determined that he will shave off his head to play the character. “Shaving off my head was the biggest decision I had to take. Yes, a lot of homework was needed to play the role, but everything boiled down to whether I will be shaving off my head or not to attain perfection. But I had made my personal choice that I will shave off my head. So there were no two thoughts about it.”

Speaking more about the perception that people have, Raashul states, “The channel actually did an amazing job of keeping me under cover till the genie was required in the story line. Well, there were people who readily accepted me as the genie. But there were people who were disheartened too, as they wanted to see a hefty, bulky and angry genie. But it is all about perception. But now, I am glad that they are watching me in action and enjoying seeing this genie. We want viewers to love the show as much as we love being part of the show.”

Raashul who was recently seen in the movie Poster Boyz is all praise for the actors and production team part of the show. “We are one big family and it is nice to work with all of them. All of us are ambitious and want the show to reach great heights.”

This is the second show for Raashul with Producers Alind Srivastava and Nissar Parvez, his first being Mayavi Maling.

Here’s wishing Raashul all the very best!!
