Iqbal Khan foresees a glut of TV mythological shows in the coming months, given the massive success of yesteryear shows like Ramayan and Mahabharat.
“Sadly, most will tank for people don’t want to watch mytho content per se, but good stories and let’s face it the old Ramayan and Mahabharat had some charm. I am sure even other old classics like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, Nukkad, and Tamas too will get monster ratings if brought back.”
He adds, “TV honchos need to address the problem of rapidly diminishing audiences. We still seem to be sticking to some type of regressive content. Today, producers threw success parties when their shows cross 3 TRPs. Ramayan’s 15 + TRP proves audiences have not yet abandoned TV; they will come back if served right type of stories. Just putting web stuff on TV will also not work.”
Talking about COVID- 19, the handsome actor adds, “I hope something magical happens. For the lockdown, though necessary, can’t be sustained indefinitely given the plight of the daily wage earners. Our industry also needs to start, where apart from technicians, many actors too can’t survive just sitting at home.”
In closing, he says lockdown keeps him busy. “There is so much work to be done at home (cooking, washing, and cleaning ), I have always valued the critical role women of the house play in our lives. Right from childhood, I have seen mom take care of the house and me and my three siblings.”
