Jia Mustafa’s association with Optimystix Entertainment continues even after her last show with them, Sony’s Ladies Special 2, wrapped up a while back. She has just joined their on-going Sony SAB spoof show, Apna News Aayega.
This 2-3 minutes sketch comedy segments revolve around two news anchors, played by Abhilash Thapliyal and Chhavi Pandey, who open the show with unique funny imitations and puns, while proceeding with ‘pun intended’ topical issues, based on current affairs, Bollywood and International affairs.
There are several guest artists coming in, including Shruti Seth, Rajesh Kumar, Balraj Sayal, Aditi Bhatia, Banwarilal Jhol, Flora Saini, Gaurav Dubey, Ketan Singh, Karishma Sharma, J Liza Malik, Rahul Singh, Divyansh Diwedi, etc.
“I have just shot for 2 days with them, doing gags on Deepika Padukone (Ramleela), Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli, Alia Bhatt, among other stuff. The telecast will happen soon,” added Jia, who was first noticed in Pavitra Rishta.
“Working with veteran comedians like Mubin and gang, along with a five camera set up, gives you a new high.”
“I feel so refreshed on set that I am already looking forward to the next schedule.”
“I loved working with Vipul sir’s team again in Apna News Aayega. It is like coming home. The respect and treatment they give to their actors is unparalleled.”
Talking about Ladies Special 2, she says, “I rank it as one of my best shows till date. The entire unit got along like a house on fire, which normally never happens on the tube.”
“Here, I will admit that at first I was not sure if I would be able to pull off the comic zone and also fit into the loud bracket, as required by Sony Sab. No wonder, looking ahead I would now be game for long-running comic series as well. Sony SAB offers you different types of content, compared to the drama being served on other channels.”
Jia, who till now has revelled in the negative genre, would love to try out all positive characters next. “But yes, I don’t want to do daily soap leads. Rather, I am looking for juicy roles on the web. Playing a TV vamp has its positives though, for we get to adorn attractive saris.”++
