Parakh Madan, currently playing the evil stepmother of the female lead (Pratibha Ranta) in recently launched Zee TV show Qurbaan Hua, is passing the lockdown time trying to hone her creative skills. I dance, (refining my kathak skills) write and paint. All this happens post-all-important house chores (jharu, katka and bartan), adds she with a smile.
Written anything on the current lockdown? “Nope, all and sundry are doing it. Instead, I am enjoying the myriad meme doing the WhatsApp and Facebook rounds. I do pen my thoughts on the varied important topics, do check out my social media handle to sample some of my pearls of wisdom.”
Like other actors, Parakh too is clueless about shoot resumptions. “While we actors are in the better financial state, spare a thought for the low daily wage earners.”
Possible fall out on your show?”A real danger of losing the audience who had just started warming up to our story. This Sonali Jaffar Production came on air only on 25th February.”
Can your show also face the axe as several others are doing? “I have heard no such news, and I am hoping that things don’t reach such a pass.”
Talking about her long career, Parakh, who started with Saathii Re back in 2006, says, “Being very picky I have not done much work. So there is a lot more to explore. Sadly, today TV content is only designed around young female leads. Unwilling to be reduced to crying mom, I decided to try out negative roles. An antagonist gets to do much more. I discovered this in my last show Kalash Ek Vishwaas, Nivedita Luthra was not black but grey as all humans are.”
Parakh has done few films like Jai Santoshi Maa (2006) and Dev.D (2009) as well.
All actors are making a beeline to the web, your take?
“WWW revolution has changed the entertainment landscape for the better. I am game for multidimensional digital characters, giving the actor within a free run.”
She is not worried about s*x dominating online shows, “Luckily, that experimental phase is passing out, and today content alone is king.”
