Paritosh Tripathi, aka Mamaji of the just ended super-hit Sony show, Super Dancer, represents the true creed of comic artists. “It is very important to be able to take digs at yourself. People joke at Mamaji’s face and my antics. It is fun, for at the end of day, you are entertaining audiences in a decent way. Also, I just don’t talk funny; many times, my comments have lots of underlying social messages as well.”
“I am really happy that Bishal Sharma won Season 2, for he really worked hard. Even the other kids were equally good”, added Paritosh, who has done lots of Crime Patrol episodes as the negative.
“My theatre background allows me freedom to try all kinds of genres,” said he.
Paritosh, who has also done Mahakumbh, does a lot of improvisation to the given material. “The shayaris are mine. Also, I add a lot about my observations of the quirks of small-town folks, being one myself.”
Is hosting easy or tough? “You have no clue about our stress levels. Besides the judges and contestants, we need to keep the studio audiences charged up as well. Many of my jokes, which have no relation to the show, are directed to this purpose.”
Coming to his co-anchor, he said, “Rithvik Dhanjani is like my previous birth bhanja. Although we are of the same age, he has done much more acting work than me. We both also share the same passion and craziness.”
As regards his banter with judges Shilpa Shetty, Geeta Kapoor and Anurag Basu, he averred, “Full credit to them for creating the enabling environment.”
On what makes the show a huge hit, “I guess it is the pure talent and homely atmosphere. The kids perform with ease and our judges try to make them as comfortable as possible. My equation with the contestants is so cool that the kids call me Mamaji, backstage as well.”
Paritosh, who is also doing Comedy High School with Ram Kapoor on Discovery JEET, said, “We have shot all the 15 episodes of the first season of this weekly.”
Here, he admitted that the channel is going through lots of programming issues. “But I am sure things will get better over time. Some shows, like ours, Swami Ramdev: Ek Sangharsh and 21 Sarfarosh: Sargarhi 1897, have promise.”
All the best Mamaji! Hope to see you in Season 3 of Super Dancer as well.
