My role in Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji will soon open up: Geetanjali Singh

Cute actress, Geetanjali Singh is enjoying her elder sister role in new STAR Plus show, Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji. “I am essaying Happy’s (Jasmin Bhasin) cousin who is getting married. My character Dinky Mehra is totally dependent on Happy, who protects her from her conservative father. You can imagine me and Happy as Kajol and my father as Amrish Puri of DDLJ.”

“Agreed, my role has not yet opened up as we are still in the process of setting up various characters. But soon Dinky will surely have lots to do, e.g. returning Happy’s affections in kind. Her post-marriage track will also keep you engaged. Dinky is a very soft-spoken girl, quite opposite to Happy, who is forever ready to give anyone a piece of her mind.”

Ask why the girls’ definition of a bachelorette party in the show means going to a dhaba rather than going to a strip joint, and she says, “We have shown small-town India where young women are still not free to go anywhere apart from college. So obviously their idea of letting their hair down one last time before marriage will certainly be different than big city gals,” says Geetanjali, who had debuted with Million Dollar Girl.

She also defended the rampant playing out of traditional power structures in the narrative. “Why should we shy away from pointing out out-dated practices? Hailing from the northern belt, I have personally experienced such gender discrimination.”

Ramp-walker Geetanjli also graced the big screen recently, in a lead role opposite Manit Joura. Unfortunately, Falsafa tanked. “We were first slated to release in September, but eventually hit theatres along with Uri. No wonder, we did not get enough screens,” she added.

Besides TV and films, she is also toying with web series. “I have finished shooting for a horror WWW series. As a true artist, I want to try out all kinds of roles and not be restricted by one single genre.”

Forward-thinking Geetanjali is open to doing bold stuff as well. “I have no qualms in donning a bikini or other edgy stuff, as long it is required by the script.”

Wish you all the best, Geetanjali.
