Roop numbers were not that bad: Donal Bisht

Donal Bisht is taking the sudden news of her Colors show, Roop – Mard Ka Naya Swaroop going off air in her stride. “Although we were shocked by this early ending, for our numbers were not that bad, we also need to accept that every show does have an expiry date.”

When asked about the final date of shooting, she says, “While there is no clear date, we expect things to wind up by the first week of May.”  Could it have continued for a little while longer? “Well, it could have, for the concept still had some juice left in it. But then these decisions are taken by the production house (Rashmi Sharma Telefilms) and channel, and I guess the original one year contract was about to end as well. We really don’t know what and why. The best part is that we are ending the show on a positive note,” added she.

Point out that other shows on Colors are not doing great either,  and she says, “I know, but I don’t want to comment on these things. I’d rather look at the positive —having gotten to play diverse shades so early in my career, what else can an actor ask for? Also, I got  the chance to work with a great production house. The Roop unit has become like my second family.”

Looking ahead, Donal might now want to try her hand at web series as well.

“Doing TV is a long-term commitment. I’d rather opt for short start to finish digital projects, which will allow me to play with various kinds of stories. Also, web is better in the creative department as well, for we get time to work and improvise on our characters, unlike TV, where scripts are often given on the morning of the shoot and the actor is expected to deliver the scene in one take due to time issues.”

Last but not the least, she thinks web gives her a chance to play younger and sassier characters, “something that is not possible on TV”. Her strong woman character had got lots of brickbats at the start.

“Having said that, I don’t have anything against TV, which has made me who I am. And if some really strong small screen role comes my way, I will do it for sure.”
