She used to consider me her laadesar (grandson): Balika Vadhu actor Avinash Mukherjee remembers his ‘dadisa’ Surekha Sikri

Balika Vadhu actor Avinash Mukherjee remembers veteran actress Surekha Sikri

Indian cinema lost an irreplaceable gem, actress Surekha Sikri. The national award-winning actress passed away due to cardiac arrest in Mumbai. She was fondly remembered for her portrayal of Dadisa in Balika Vadhu. Remembering her, actor Avinash Mukherjee, who played her on-screen grandson Jagdish in Balika Vadhu said, “I just got the news and I am deeply saddened. It is a big loss for all of us. I have personally worked with Surekha ji for 2 years. I may not be in touch with her for a last couple of years but I know that she has always been very disciplined and dedicated towards her work. She used to love me a lot and used to consider me her laadesar (grandson) what I was essaying in Balika Vadhu.”

He further added, “She is one of the greatest actresses. I still watch old videos of Balika Vadhu just to see her acting. I see her and understand more about acting. I remember I had asked her on the sets of Balika Vadhu that ‘how do you act so well?’. She replied ‘experience’. What I remember and what will stay with me for lifetime is that the only person she had in her life while we were shooting for Balika Vadhu was her husband. Around lunchtime, she got the news about her husband’s demise. She rushed. However, the next day, she was there on set at 7 am, ready with her dialogues for the shoot. Everyone was just shocked, she just came and performed without any hesitation. What lesson we learn from her is that the emotions that you have in your personal life shouldn’t affect your work. This requires the next level of dedication and work ethic.”

We will miss you Dadisa!
