Barkha Bisht is not very perturbed that her SAB TV show, Shrimaan Shrimati Phir Se, did not last long. “We have wrapped up shoot.I guess some shows are ill-fated from day one. At first, we were to be telecast on Happie TV, but unfortunately, that channel did not see the light of day. Later it shifted base to SAB. Some episodes were pre-shot.”

“There were major internal issues right from the start of the fresh shoot. All these factors, I guess, contributed to the show’s eventual end. There was nothing really wrong with the story,” says Barkha, who has been around TV for a long time. Her first call to fame was Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam, back in 2005.

Did changes in Shrimaan Shrimati Phir Se’s cast mid–stream further complicate matters? “Well, Sameer Shah could not continue under the new set-up, but I don’t think that was the eventual decider.”

“All in all, I enjoyed my brief stint, for it really helped me to hone my comic timing.Plus, it has reinforcedmy belief in the dictum, that we should not take life very seriously. What has to happen will happen. So why stress?” Her other recent comic caper was Partners, again on SAB TV.

Looking ahead, she is open to doing more interesting stuff. “To be honest, one can’t be really choosy, as TV itself is very limited; so need to choose from what is on the table.”

Ask her about turning down Jodha’s role in upcoming Colors show, Mughal-E-Azam, and Barkha says, “I just could not be mother to someone (Shaheer Sheikh) close to my age. If I am not comfortable internally, I will not be able to do justice to the character. I know many other women might still have gone ahead, but, to each his own.”

Shifting gears to digital, she is enjoying her web series, Couple of Mistakes, with Karanveer Mehra. “It is really fun to create your own content, rather than just following what others write for you.”

What does your better half (Indraniel Sengupta) have to say about your on-screen antics? “Well, he says I am just like my character in real life.”

While she would be game for more web series, Barkha does accept that her not doing bold might be a stumbling block for her digital journey. “I know most shows do have that, but yes, some shows are also different. Having said that, I am still not comfortable going bold.”
