A very different character, that of a politician. Why did you think you could attempt this role?

Honestly, playing Teerth felt like the perfect challenge for me. He’s a charismatic, principled leader who embodies integrity and responsibility, and that’s what attracted me to the role. I have always admired characters who are strong but still have a human side, and Teerth fits that perfectly. He’s got this vision for the greater good and makes tough decisions, which makes him not just a politician but a true leader. I see a lot of similarities between Teerth and myself — we both stand up for what we believe in — but Teerth is more patient than I am. That’s where the fun came in, working on that side of him!

You have been friends with Ashnoor Kaur for quite a while. However, it is a different ball game working together as leads. How is it going?

Working with Ashnoor has been a blast! We have known each other for some time, so there’s already a comfort level, but stepping into this new space as co-leads has been interesting. There’s a different kind of chemistry on set because we both bring unique energies to our characters, and that dynamic has only strengthened our bond. Ashnoor’s such a dedicated actor, and playing off each other’s performances has been a lot of fun.

Any reason for being away from TV for such a long time?

I believe in quality over quantity. I didn’t want to jump into just any project — I was waiting for something that truly resonated with me, something that could challenge me as an actor. When Suman Indori came along, and I read about Teerth’s character, I knew this was it. It’s not every day you get to play a role that’s layered, where you are not just a hero but a leader with flaws, emotions, and a strong sense of duty. Plus, working with Prateek Sharma’s team was a big draw. The wait was worth it!

Tell us what viewers can expect from the show Suman Indori?

Expect the unexpected! This show brings in real, relatable issues. At its core, it’s about responsibility, relationships, and fighting for what’s right. My character Teerth is a political leader, but it’s his emotional depth, especially his relationship with his family, that adds an unexpected dimension. There’s a lot of action, drama, and some tender moments that will connect with viewers on a personal level.

What are your personal expectations from the role?

I expect to grow with this role. Teerth is someone who’s constantly thinking about the bigger picture, and I hope that translates on screen. Personally, I want people to connect with his journey, not just as a leader but as a human being who cares deeply for his family, especially his mother. If I can make viewers feel Teerth’s inner conflict — the tension between his public duties and personal responsibilities — I would consider that a success.

What do you have to say about the constant talks about actors being chosen owing to their social media standing, rather than talent? What is your personal take on this?

I think it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. Social media definitely helps reach a wider audience, and I understand why it’s important today, but I believe talent should always come first. At the end of the day, audiences connect with your performance, not your follower count. I am lucky to have a solid fan base, but I have always let my work speak for itself. Whether it’s TV, digital, or films, talent is what sustains you. Social media is just a tool — the real test happens when the camera’s rolling.

How has the response been for your character?

The response has been incredible! People are really connecting with my character. I have been getting messages. It’s heartwarming to see viewers appreciate not just the ‘hero’ side but also the emotional layers of the character. His relationships have touched a chord with many people, and that’s been special to me.

Anita, Ashnoor and you are said to get along really well on the set. How is the mood when you are together?

Oh, it’s an absolute riot when the three of us are together! Anita, Ashnoor, and I have this amazing vibe on set — it’s like one family. We joke around, pull pranks, and just have fun in between takes. But when it’s time to shoot, there’s this understanding that we’re all here to give our best. That balance of fun and professionalism keeps the mood light and the energy up. It’s been a joy working with them!
