Talented actor Abhaas Mehta, known for playing a baddie in shows like Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Brahmarakshas, Singhasan Battisi, says he has stopped getting offer calls to enact positive characters.
“I think I am already stereotyped for playing negative roles. I don’t even get audition calls for positive characters. I have past the stage of getting scared of being stereotyped, for already I am,” says the actor.
The actor is currently playing the powerful character Shumbh in Colors’ Mahakali– Anth Hi Aarambh Hai.
Talking about the preparation for the role, he shares, “After I started shooting, I got caught the mannerisms well. I was sure of bringing a variety in my diction& tonality, for my real voice is not demonic at all. I am growing with the character and I am still learning. I have no idea of Indian mythology so I get to learn new things. For an actor, doing mythology is good because all your skills get tested. The production house (Swastik Pictures) is amazing. I always wanted to work with them for a long time. The only thing I don’t like is that the sets are not in Mumbai. Apart from that, it is all awesome.”
Abhaas feels playing a grey shade role is most challenging. “The most difficult part of playing a negative character is to distinguish from other grey shade characters. The idea should be that you play the character in such a way that after the show is over and five years down the line, people should remember it. It is most challenging.”
On a closing note he says, “I only wish to do roles that challenge me every day and this is by far the most difficult role I have done in my career. Good or bad is just perspective.”
Well said, Abhaas.
