Back to Rajan Shahi’s family. How does it feel to be a part of Anupamaa after being in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai?
It feels like coming home. Rajan Sir’s sets are always full of warmth and positivity. It’s a privilege to be part of his vision again, and being in Anupamaa is a dream.
Were you earlier told that you were being considered in Anupamaa when Rohit was being brought back in Yeh Rishta?
Not at all! I didn’t see it coming. This opportunity in Anupamaa was a pleasant surprise. The timing just clicked perfectly.
Do you miss playing Rohit Poddar considering the popularity the show has bagged?
Of course, Rohit will always be special to me. But as an actor, I love moving forward and exploring new characters. Prem is so different, and that challenge excites me.
Tell us what you like the most in Prem.
His unpredictability! Prem is young, passionate, and has layers that are yet to unfold. I love playing a character who keeps the audience guessing. This is probably the most energetic character I’ve portrayed so far. Prem is so different from me, which makes it a great learning experience. He’s a sensible individual with a childlike charm.
The audience feels there’s a lot to come with regards to Prem. Is it true?
Absolutely! Prem is just getting started. There’s a lot in store—drama, emotions, and maybe a few surprises. Stay tuned; it’s going to be worth it. He’s carrying the weight of his past and pain while still spreading joy to everyone around him.
How is it working with Rupali Ganguly?
It’s amazing! Rupali ma’am is so supportive and brings so much energy to the set.
You have grown a lot as an actor from the time Rohit happened. This is an observation we have seen. What do you have to say about it?
That’s such a sweet thing to hear. I feel I have matured as a performer, thanks to all the experiences I have had. Growth comes naturally when you keep pushing yourself.
How confident do you feel now in front of the camera?
Very confident! The initial jitters are long gone. Now, it feels like I can experiment and really dive deep into my character.
Are you similar to what Prem is in real life? What sets you apart from him?
Prem and I share a certain passion for life, but I am much calmer than he is. He’s impulsive, whereas I like to think things through. I connect with my character through respect for different cultures and traditions, but beyond that, I feel like it’s bringing out my goofy and cute side.
How has the fan reaction been after your entry and beyond?
Overwhelming, honestly! Fans have been so welcoming, and their love motivates me every day. It’s humbling to see Prem gaining such a strong connection with the audience.
How does it feel to shoulder the huge responsibility of being the new-gen lead in a show like Anupamaa?
It’s a big responsibility but also a huge honour. I see it as an opportunity to grow and contribute to a show that’s already iconic. I am just giving it my all and hoping to make the audience proud.
