Talented actress Sayantani Ghosh, who worked in shows like Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar, Naamkarann, Sanjivani 2, Tera Yaar Hoon Main, and Naagin – Bhagya Ka Zehreela Khel, is all set to entertain masses with her character Simsim in Sony SAB’s new show Alibaba Dastaan-e-Kabul. Talking about her new character, she said, “I was offered the show and I was wondering if I should sign for it. The producers called me to their office and asked me to take the narration. When I heard that I will be playing the role of Simsim, I was excited. In previous shows or projects, we have seen that Simsim is just a command (like we say khul jaa Simsim). However, for the first time, viewers will witness Simsim’s human form. That got me sold on the project. Later, I explained the character in detail. She is the villain in the series but she is very different from the other vamps of the Indian TV shows. Her core emotion is love. It was a complex character to play. And knowing that I am going to be the first Simsim was super exciting for me.”

When asked how challenging it was to get into the skin of the character despite not having any references, Sayantani added, “Creating something new is always beautiful. The challenge is that you don’t have a reference point. Having said that, it works in our favor. Because if there is a reference point, audiences start comparing. Or an actor can be repetitive. However, we are providing viewers with something unique. To be the first Simsim is more of a plus point than a minus. Being on a harness, and wearing the headgear, nails, and lens is difficult. However, as an actor, I have to keep myself motivated with versatile roles. I can’t be taking up repetitive projects or characters. Sometimes it will be emotionally draining and sometimes physical. But I believe no pain, no gain. I am happy to be one of those actors who keeps getting versatile characters.”

Sayantani, who hasn’t explored the web platform, is happy working in the TV space. She said, “I am an artist so I don’t believe in the differentiation of these platforms. I am here to do my job as an actor. Having said that, I am a proud flagbearer of the world of TV. We go to every household and provide entertainment. Hence we command and demand a certain respect. I am very happy to be a part of the TV fraternity.”
