Divyanka Tripathi, who impressed everyone with her hosting in Star Plus reality show, The Voice, takes the low rating of the show in her stride. The show, despite having judges like Armaan Malik, Kanika Kapoor, Harshdeep Kaur, Adnan Sami, never picked up in the ratings from day one.
It was speculated that the soft-spoken personality of music icon A R Rehman as Mahaguru was not working with the format. Rehman Sir, being a man of few words, was not saying much, as most reality show judges are expected to (remember Mithun Chakraborty and Remo Fernandes’ funny antics in Dance India Dance and Dance Plus, respectively?) This is no comment on Rehman Sir’s musical calibre; we are no one to question the one who has won a Grammy for the nation. All we are saying is that reality show grammar is different.
Although the other judges did bend over backwards to create funny moments, and there was a lot of banter among them, but alas, it did not set the charts on fire. Ironically, when The Voice aired on lesser GRP channels like &TV, it had slightly better ratings.
Divyanka replied, ‘I never look at TRPs of any show I do. That’s the channel’s prerogative, especially because no actor/anchor/jury can help in such a scenario. My focus is always on my output and the reactions I get from the viewers, which was extraordinary. There was a new kind of audience popping up and liking my work in The Voice. It was a beautiful journey that we’ll. cherish and will miss each other.”
On her new confident western avatar, Divyanka said, “Oh, I enjoyed every bit of it. Dressing up, meeting new people, experiencing so much talent, seeing and learning from their individual struggles and connecting with them personally.”
She had to take a break at the fag end due to date issues but eventually co-hosted the finale with Karan Wahi, who had taken her place for a couple of episodes.
