Often, several actors, having gotten bored of playing the same characters day in and day out, move out to seek greener pastures elsewhere. However, model turned actor Ruhi Chaturvedi, who plays the negative character in popular Zee TV show Kundali Bhagya, is quite happy to continue to wreak havoc on the Luthra clan.

“Watch out for Sherlyn Khurana. She just started with the will and et all.”

“I am still very new and this show has given me a lot. I had first started as a 2-month cameo, but because my work was liked, I have gone on to last for 3 years. I am very proud that I hit pay dirt in my very first outing. The best part is that Sherlyn is so unlike me. She is cunning, manipulative and over-smart.”

“Here, I must thank my co-stars like Dheeraj Dhooper, who taught me the importance of patience, saying that TV is a long-haul game and you need to keep at it.”

“I also get along well with the female lead, Shraddha Arya, who has done a lot of work, both in TV and in regional films. We all hang out a lot after work as well.”

Given that Ruhi troubles the above lot on screen, she gets a lot of hate mail. “At first, I would get affected by this vicious social media trolling, but then my above co-star again reminded me to see the positive side, that your work is so good that public is getting pissed. So now I am starting to take things in my stride.”

Further, Ruhi accepts that certain mannerisms of TV vamps are indeed overdramatic. “At times, I too want to know why I need to make certain expressions (rolling eyes, multiple voice-over), day in and day out. But let’s face it, TV, as opposed to the realistic web, has a certain small-town demand, which we need to cater to.”

Coming to her costumes, she says, “I am lucky to get a very subtle look as opposed to loud ones, which vamps normally adorn. Here I was lucky, for creative director Mukta Dhond, herself being a South Mumbai gal, kept it very chic. Also, I myself come from a fashion background, so know what works.”

She attributes the continuing success to the entire team’s hard work. “I guess we all have great kundalis that Kundali Bhagya keeps rocking.”

Looking ahead, Ruhi would not mind trying her hand at Alt Balaji web series. “I don’t think all are all bold. Some are family-oriented as well.”

“As an actor, for me the role is important. So if the character has meat, I might be ready for some amount of boldness if it is required by the script.”
