Sagar Parekh rose to fame with his portrayal of the loving and charming Samar Shah in Star Plus’ Anupamaa. Sagar who is now looking at characters that can test his inner grit as a performer, has bagged a very different and never-seen-before role, that of Vansh in Colors’ popular show Mer Balam Thanedaar. Produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions, the show sees the important new entry of Vansh who is set to change the dynamics in the lives of Veer and Bulbul.
In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Sagar talks about his role, his idea behind choosing it and more.

What prompted you to take this role of Vansh in Mera Balam Thanedaar?
I was drawn to the character of Vansh because it’s something I haven’t done before. The role has a raw, rowdy edge to it, which is completely different from the previous characters I have portrayed. I was excited by the challenge of stepping into Vansh’s shoes and bringing his complex persona to life. It’s a character that pushes me to explore a different side of myself as an actor, and that’s always a compelling reason to say yes.
Will it be a ruffian-like, rough and tough character?
Absolutely! Vansh is a rough, tough, and street-smart character with a ruffian-like charm. He’s someone who doesn’t play by the rules and has a certain ruggedness that sets him apart. It’s been fun to explore that raw intensity and the layered emotions beneath his tough exterior.
What is the USP of this character as per you?
The USP of Vansh, in my opinion, is his unpredictability. He’s not your typical hero or villain— he’s here to rule like he owns everything. There are shades of grey in his personality that make him both intriguing and relatable. His rough demeanour is balanced by a strong sense of deep emotions, which I think will keep viewers hooked. Vansh’s complexity is what makes him stand out.
Will the character have a direct tussle with Veer in the coming time? Any insights into that?
I don’t want to give too much away, but yes, there will definitely be some intense moments between Vansh and Veer. The dynamic between these two characters will add an exciting layer of drama to the storyline. Their confrontations are going to be full of tension and unexpected twists, which I think the audience will enjoy.
Tell us about the characteristic traits of Vansh.
Vansh is very rowdy, street-smart, bold, and unafraid to take risks. He’s got that rough exterior but is also very strategic in his actions. He is extremely tough and also his vulnerability makes him a fascinating character to portray.
What do you expect from this role?
I hope that Vansh resonates with the audience just as much as my previous characters did, if not more. It’s a role that challenges me as an actor, and I expect it to push my boundaries and help me grow. I also hope the viewers enjoy this new, gritty side of me and the show as a whole. It’s a fresh storyline with a lot of unique elements, and I am excited for everyone to see it.
