We can make this world a safer place with education and healthy upbringing: Nidhi Shah of Anupamaa fame

Nidhi Shah who plays the role of Kinjal in Anupamaa gets into an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com.

Anupamaa the numero-uno show on Hindi GEC airs on Star Plus and is produced by Rajan Shahi’s Director’s Kut. The show has been touching many family-bound issues and societal evils that need to be addressed in a strong way. The very recent track involved the exploitation of women in offices. Actress Nidhi Shah who plays the role of Kinjal Paritosh Shah in the show, was victim to mental harassment at work when her boss cast an evil eye over her.

Nidhi who has had a great ride with the show Anupamaa gets into a conversation to address her thoughts on her role, the recent track and more.

Says Nidhi, “The show has hit the right chord with the audience. We have a stellar cast which has helped me grow so much as an actor. Personally, my character of Kinjal is extremely relatable to every girl of my age irrespective of where they belong to. This aspect obviously puts me under positive pressure to do better for my character.”

The present track on how women at work get harassed is a common feature seen in today’s society. As a woman, how do you voice against this issue, we ask her. “I don’t think it is only today’s society. For years, we have been hearing this, through generations and across continents. I think Anupamaa as a show has been successful in voicing this by the virtue of its characters and the writing. Add to the fact, this show reaches millions of households across the country.”

On playing the victim in the track, Nidhi expresses her thoughts, “I think we should shy away from calling ourselves, victims. It was probably a portrayal of what some of us go through in our everyday lives and hopefully, Anupamaa and Kinjal acted as a source of inspiration for many to help them deal with this problem.”

Anupamaa as a show has addressed many social and family-related problems. Ask her about the issues that affect her a lot, and Nidhi is vocal in saying, “The social disparity in our country is extreme. Some women of my age who go to work are looked upon whereas some who are homemakers by choice are frowned upon. The fact that both can coexist was highlighted in one of our segments and I was extremely satisfied with the way it was treated.”

Is the TV industry devoid of such bullies at work? We seek Nidhi’s thoughts on this and she is happy to share, “I think right from the time you’re born, to your school, to friends and eventually workplace you’re always facing bullies. TV industry is no exception to this. We need to create a system where people can take up their concerns and the same can be addressed in a safe environment. A lot needs to be done in educating the industry on such etiquettes.”

Being today’s independent girl, ask Nidhi about her ideologies when it comes to women’s safety, and she is quick to say, “Everyone needs to feel and has the right to protect themselves, women and men alike. Talking from my previous response, education and healthy upbringing is the only way we will make this world a safer place.”

Lastly, as a message to her loving fans, Nidhi states, “I am what I am today because of you all. I thrive on your love. And it will be my endeavour to always do better and keep entertaining you all.”

Best of luck, Nidhi!!
