Pankhuri Awasthy, who has captured hearts of millions as Razia Sultan and Draupadi in her popular shows Razia Sultan and Suryaputra Karn respectively, recently made her comeback on the small screen.
The beauty is playing the female lead of Star Plus’ show Kya Qusoor Hai Amala Ka?, produced by 24-Frames Productions. It is an official adaptation of much-popular Turkish drama Fatmagul, which tackles the complex emotions and a sensitive subject of violation of the innocence of a woman.
Pankhuri, who is playing a rape victim in the show, finds the role challenging and realistic.
“The role is definitely challenging. I need to understand what a rape victim goes through, feeling of betrayal, mental impact, trauma and also fight wit the world. I need to portray certain things that have never happened to me, so to understand well and depict the right emotion to the audience is very important,” said Pankhuri.
She also mentioned about her preparation for the project. “We met physiologist and physiatrist who deal with people who have experienced such trauma. They explained about their mental behaviour. What the victim fears the most about and what happens when they are married to their rapist. I took few lessons for my role.”
We asked Pankhuri what message her show is providing to the audience, she averred, “We live in a society where taboo exists. Everybody wants to hide as they are scared if they speak up; people will laugh at them or will shut their mouth. They keep quiet in the fear that people will blame them. This is why there are more crimes because no one is stopping them. People should change and should punish the guilty instead of the victim.”
We agree with you Pankhuri!
