Anuj Sachdeva returned to television after a hiatus and won hearts in the very endearing role of Cheeru in Woh Toh Hai Albelaa, the Star Bharat show produced by Rajan Shahi’s Director’s Kut.
In a very well-etched start to finish role, wherein the character could shower love, Anuj stood out in the scenes that he performed.
In an exclusive conversation with IWMBuzz.com, Anuj talks about this small yet satisfying journey of his and his next project.
Excerpts:
Your character of Cheeru has been very impressive. What are your takeaways from this journey?
My takeaway from this journey is that my character was very much like a dessert. It was served in a qualitative, limited quantity to viewers. I believe this is one character that has touched every person’s heart. This is what I wanted. I wanted Cheeru to be known as the elder brother one should want to have. I am happy that I was able to convey the emotions. This was a character that helped me to build connections with people. It helped me to be more responsible. The character was very close to me. When this character died, I felt that I left my soul.
With the character dying, are you a bit sad that this did not go on for long?
I am not sad at all. As I mentioned, I did not want this character to live long. It had a time graph and it did well. Yes, there is always a greed factor wherein I could wish I get more time to spend with my cast and crew. I had a great time sharing screen space with all the actors in the cast. Working with DKP was amazing. The show has to move on, and it will.
The bromance on the show has been a big high point. How was it with Shaheer and Kinshuk?
I have mentioned my thoughts towards my onscreen brothers in a post on social media. In fact, Kinshuk Vaidya made a reel and posted it which had me in tears. I had a fabulous time on set with Shaheer Sheikh and Kinshuk. We genuinely felt that we were brothers. I don’t have a brother in real life, I have a sister. Now I know how it feels to have two brothers. I am happy and fortunate to have created that connect. I am happy that this bromance has been liked by the audience.
You are having some good web projects too in the kitty. Tell us about that.
I am in Delhi shooting for a web series titled Zakhm for MX Player. I play an ED Officer who holds on to the ethics and is trying to stop the underworld battles. You will see me in a different avatar there.
What are the kind of roles that interest you?
I believe that I can do a lot more in comedy. I think I can go the extra mile in a comic role. Also, I will want to do a contrasting intense cop role, something like what Amit Sadh performed in Breathe.
What are your goals ahead?
I want to get good work. My goal is to work internationally. I want to get recognition outside of India too.
Is there any dream role that you have in mind?
The old-time film Sadma, which was enacted by Kamal Haasan was brilliant. I would love to do something like that.
Your message to fans.
I have come back to television after a long time. I am trying to progress further with different projects on different mediums. Thank you for being there, I will need your support in sustaining further.
