I will go bold on screen if a scene is integral to the narrative: Aditi Sanwal of Kasautii Zindagii Kay

Aditi Sanwal, who is currently seen as Kukki Bajaj in the Star Plus popular show Kasautii Zindagii Kay is happy with the way her television career is shaping up, but at the same time, is fully aware of the reach and potential of digital platforms.

As an artiste who has straddled multiple mediums, the actress tells us, “Digital content is the new-age thing, it’s promising and exciting. I have done small parts in a few web series, but I am yet to play a prominent part in one. Digital medium also functions differently from the television industry. Unlike TV, digital shows follow a fixed timeline. On television, nothing is fixed as shoots happen on a daily basis and the script may change suddenly. Web shows are also powerful in terms of their message.”

Having said that, Aditi doesn’t believe that the internet boom will spell doom for television, though many TV shows are going the digital way. “It’s true that TV viewership has been affected by the advent of the digital boom. People have also become too busy to watch shows at a fixed time. But, despite all this, the era of television will never really end,” she says.

Digital shows might be all about good content, but there’s no denying that it’s also very bold. We ask Aditi if she is willing to go bold on screen and she explains, “It depends on the script; I will check if a particular scene is integral to the narrative. There are some stories where there is no requirement of bold scenes, but they are included for titillation. On the other hand, there are also shows where such scenes have been shot aesthetically.”

So, is she open to going nude on screen if the character demands it? “At this point in my career, I don’t think I will be able to pull it off. But yes, I have a theatre background and in theatre, we have been taught to not say ‘no’ to anything. So, I believe that I might do it in future, depending on the script and my character,” she replies.

Talking about the kind of content she likes to watch, Aditi says, “My favourite genre is romantic comedy, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t watch others. I love watching a wide variety of content in different languages. Mostly, I go for shows that have a slice-of-life feel in them.”
