Women become more giving, post-marriage: Tejasswi Prakash Wayangankar

Tejasswi Prakash Wayangankar gets into a conversation with IWMBuzz

It is quite sad that at a time when women empowerment is the buzzword, our daily shows still seem to go by the old notion that post-marriage, a woman should step back.

Something similar is happening in Sony show Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya, where at first the character of Tejasswi Prakash Wayangankar was strong, but not anymore. “Diya is now letting go, wanting to devote her time to husband and family. Rohit Suchanti’s character is taking over and Diya is also not defending herself in the current track, where Abhay (Suyash Rai) has accused her of murder. Ratan again is doing everything. A woman does become more giving, post-marriage”, says Tejasswi, who first gained name and fame with Sanskaar – Dharohar Apnon Ki, Swaragini – Jodein Rishton Ke Sur, etc.

Since your character has undergone a complete change, from someone who would do anything to keep her word of being a protector of Ratan, to someone in love, how did you internalize this? “It was tough, for it happened quite suddenly. But proper briefing by the creative team and the director helped. I am really enjoying playing these different shades in the same character. This is what proves an actor’s mettle. My fans are also happy with my performance and excited about what happens next.”

When asked about her on and off screen equation with Rohit, her answer was different compared to most actors, who, when asked about co-stars, always say that we’ve become good friends. Here Tejasswi says, “We have a very professional equation. Since we shoot a lot, and the entire show is premised on us, there is hardly any time to get to know each other. Having said that, we have become comfortable with each other on screen.”

Besides this Shashi Sumeet Mittal show, Tejasswi has something else up her sleeve as well. “I will not say anything about it right now. Doing Rishta Likhenge has definitely helped my career, as the quality of offers has gone up a notch. No wonder, I said yes to the above project.”

She did not even clarify if it was a TV show or a film. When asked if she would be able to juggle both dates, she quips, “Yes, as I have great producers.”

Way to go, Tejasswi!!
