Film and TV actor Madhurima Tuli enjoyed her short stint as a dayan in STAR Plus show Qayamat Ki Raat. “I had never played such a dark character before. Both Vivek Dahiya and Karishma Tanna made me very comfortable.”
She had entered the show replacing the demon Kalasur played by Saurish Singh Athwal.
Here she accepted that her character Sanjana did not pick up so much as expected. “But what can you expect in two months.” She also refused to comment on whether the channel and the producer (Balaji Telefilms) should have given the show more time before pulling the plug.
“As actors, it is not our job to comment on stuff which is not in our hands,” says Madhurima who had earlier played the title role in Color fantasy saga Chandrakanta.
Looking ahead Madhurima is waiting for Applause web series India Strikes: 10 Days based on Uri strikes. “I am playing a journalist. I don’t want to give out more details and spoil your fun. The shoot is over and we will be all over the WWW by June or July.”
“What I best like about web is that you have the freedom to show the sexual side of female mind/body unlike films which have censor norms. Web series men are also emancipated,” she quips.
This is Madhurima’s second tryst with web, prior to which she had played a terrorist in Ullu web film 26 January. This Deepak Pandey directed project traces what happens when a cop (Madhurima’s Kumkum Bhagya co – star Mrunal Jain) falls in love with a terrorist, who gets torn between his duty and love. Mrunal and I share very cordial professional relationship.”
Talking about her character she says, “It is quite complex given her agenda to spread terror. She has no time for other feelings yet falls for her opponent. The best part is that we have left the climax open-ended, letting the viewers decide for themselves,” says Madhurima who has done several tube shows such Shree, 24 season 2 and Savitri Devi College & Hospital.
“My character in 26 January was not bold in the conventional sense, but playing a terrorist itself was bold. It is high time we stopped equating bold with just nudity. Having said that there are lovemaking scenes, but they were needed to justify the relationship. 26 January was first supposed to have been a film which later got converted into a digital flick,”she explains.
In closing south film actor Madhurima says for now she wants to take a break and travel. “Once back I will choose a good Hindi film. Luckily today, times have changed and TV actors are also getting accepted in Bollywood.”
She was first noticed as Akshay Kumar’s wife in Baby, “ I also featured in the sequel Naam Shabana.”
Best of luck, Madhurima!!
