Review: Dil Dhoondta Hai on Zee TV

The Zee TV offering, Dil Dhoondta Hai is certainly a safe bet and a decent watch.

New Zee TV show Dil Dhoondta Hai is tracing an intercast love story between a very responsible Marathi guy Vishi (Stavan Shinde) and a sweet chirpy Punjabi gal Raavi (Shivya Pathania of Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka fame). The makers (Dashami Creations) have ticked all the boxes to create drama i.e. chawl living boy having a pain in the neck father, a good for nothing actor brother and a sweet grandmother. The girl’s side has a typical mother who is very concerned about keeping up with the Joneses.

How the twain meets was interesting. Vishi’s chawl taxi driver’s uncle asks his help to pick up his prospective son- in- law and his family from the railway station. Interestingly the groom’s younger sister Raavi gets lost and in the entire din of losing her daughter, her father’s cell remains switched off.

Vishi is shown to be the picture perfect; he takes care of her, finally brings her home and the grandmother thinks they have eloped. He keeps becoming her knight in the shining armour and loses his heart in the process. The old sentiments of chawl values, where one is for all prevail here too. The everyday problems of water are also shown. But guess the lack of budgets did not allow the makers to erect a proper sprawling Mumbai chawl. But kudos to the creative team as it has gone against the conventional funda of choosing a very good looker as lead. Stavan Shinde comes across as more of an everyday Mumbaikar as the character demands rather than being a dapper model. He is also a decent actor to boot as well.

Can we say, we get reminded of the young and responsible Manav aka Sushant Singh of Pavitra Rishta as we look at Stavan? Well, we wish that he has the same kind of success that Sushant has had with the career lift that his popular Zee TV show gave him.

Moving to the lead girl, Shivya Pathania plays the quintessential Punjabi kudi who is talkative and friendly. The speciality of this Jodi is that she can’t get his normal Marathi lingo and he can’t follow Punjabi. But well, this is the least issue an interacast couple will face. The use of video calling as done by both the couples has definitely increased post 4G penetration.

In a bid to raise drama, the creatives have introduced the current track where Sardar ji daughter’s wedding is in doldrums as Raavi’s parents want the wedding to be held in Punjab and not Mumbai. So now both Raavi and Vishi will need to settle the matter for they want the couple to be happy and in doing so they will come close as well.

Will the makers have the courage to show the real issues which plague any intercaste marriage, as the Punjabi and Maharashtrian people are as different as chalk and cheese in all things?
