Project: The Big Picture
Host/Anchor: Ranveer Singh
Channel: Colors

‘A picture says a thousand words’. This is one statement that never really goes old. But to take the saying literally and conceptualize an entire reality quiz show successfully is a tough row to hoe. But it seems like the team of Colors have managed to hit bull’s eye with its new show ‘The Big Picture’. Add to that, when you have someone like Ranveer Singh on board to keep the thrill and energy factor alive, nothing really can go wrong.
The first episode is a clear indication that The Big Picture has ‘blockbuster’ written all over it. The loud cheer of the audience immediately after TV’s new blue-eyed boy Ranveer makes an entry was surreal. The format of the show is quite similar to KBC where the contestants get options to choose from, the only difference being the use of pictures to generate a question around it. The maximum reward is Rs 5 crores and truly, that validates Ranveer’s favourite line in the show, ‘Tasveer Se Taqdeer Tak’.
What We Liked: As cliche as it may sound, the best part of the show has to be Ranveer Singh himself. He’s a livewire and there’s absolutely no way you cannot fall in love with his vivacity and enthusiasm. The manner in which he gets his dancing shoes on immediately after a contestant gets an answer right is something you have never really seen on Indian reality TV space ever. Being an extrovert, he manages to make a connection with the contestants and the audience instantaneously, and not for a single moment does it look forced or unreal.
What Could Have Been Better: Just like every other reality TV show like Indian Idol, or KBC, ‘The Big Picture’ too tries to play the ’emotions’ card. Visuals trying to depict the hardships a person has gone through in his or her life before making the ‘cut’ in the show looks tried & tested. Today’s audience is ‘street smart’ enough to understand the strategy behind content creation and that makes them all the way more picky. For eg, the first contestant of the show, Karishma Noor, a constable of Haryana got the opportunity to take along with her a whopping 20 lakhs. She wants to use the money to build a house for her family and save enough to have ‘sufficient’ money for her wedding. A tale, not unfamiliar to reality show audiences.
To cut a long story short, ‘The Big Picture’ has everything ‘bigger’ in terms of energy, style, and extravaganza. If you are an admirer of Ranveer Singh, every weekend is going to be a ‘transport of delight’ from here onwards. Watch purely for the purpose of entertainment and fun.
