Star Plus is on a roll when it comes to adapting popular regional content in Hindi. Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey is the Hindi adaptation of the popular Star Jalsha show Khorkuto. This well-scripted Bengali romantic comedy drama show has lived on in the hearts of the masses. Now the story plot will shine on in Hindi GEC.
Talking about the makers Rajesh Ram Singh and Pradeep Kumar (Cockrow and Shaika Entertainment), they have delivered good content in GECs. Their show Choti Sarrdarni has been one of the popular shows on Colors. Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin which bankrolls on Star Plus is extremely popular and is one of the top-rated shows. After adapting Kusum Dola so effectively in Hindi, the makers have been given this opportunity of following the same route again with Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey. The show is creatively helmed by Siddhartha Vankar.
Talking about Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey, it is a very progressive concept that has its roots dug deep into the values and cultures followed by the main household of the Kulshreshtha family. While they worry when their daughter is not to be found in the house a day prior to her wedding, they also hold on to the value of not scolding their daughter for a mistake that they term as ‘bachpana’. They bless an unmarried girl who comes to attend their family wedding, dressed in a glam short dress, and accept the ‘Hi’ from her, when she should have bent down and sought their blessings. Kulshreshtha family joins together in doing the Kanyadaan of their daughter, as all the elder couples and even the unmarried bua in the family have brought her up as their child. Such a family is hard to come across in today’s time, but it is so lively to watch them onscreen. The best aspect of this show is that no character is negative in thoughts or actions.
We also have the Bhatnagar family from where the lead girl comes from. A contrast to the joint family of Kulshreshthas, Bhatnagar family is small, yet not complete. Gungun Bhatnagar does not live with her mother, while she has a doting father and a mother-like affectionate aunt. The girl ends up being pampered, spoilt, yet innocent and very naive to the extent of being upfront in what she thinks.
On the contrary, we have the main boy, Anubhav Kulshreshtha who is simple, smart, intelligent, extremely down-to-earth and a complete family boy. The world of the Kulshreshthas will only start to shake when they will bring in the totally-contrast Gungun for the son of the house, Anubhav. However, the manner in which they will see the positives in the girl, even when she is flawed, will be a very different approach used to gauge the Bahus on Indian television. We look forward to this phase in the story plot!!
The characterizations of the Kulshreshtha family have been done with precision and clarity. Every brother in the household is a gem with a certain unique/weird trait. This is a family which firmly believes in the saying, ‘Ek beti ghar se jaati hai toh ek bahu beti banke ghar main aati hai’. How this dialogue was put across in the show was so touchy to hear. Also, the family believes in what they say!!
As said earlier, the dialogues in the show are impactful and also have the needed light-hearted tone to them. The depiction in the thought process of the girl’s father has been brought about so well in the initial episodes. Also, his restlessness at not being able to give his daughter the kind of upbringing that he should have given as a parent comes across so well.
The show also takes us into the world of music, wherein the lead boy is a fabulous singer. The rendition which Anubhav gives as a farewell gift to his sister during her bidaai was so impactful and soul-touching.
Moving to the performances, Manan Joshi as Anubhav is not the usual macho hero that Indian TV usually sees. However, there is this unusual characteristic in him that makes him the right pick to play Anubhav. Certainly, early days to predict, but he is surely in the right direction!! Yesha Rughani is probably doing this kind of an OTT role for the first time in her career. We must say, she looks fine in the role. But care should be taken of not overdoing her emotions, just because her character needs that over-the-top reaction to situations. After all, there is a very thin line drawn between the needed and the little extra to it!!
The show has a very balanced cast with some great performers. Must say, Delnaaz Irani and Mehul Nisar have been the ones who have impressed us the most in the initial episodes. Having said this, Rajiv Kumar, Nishigandha Wad, Kanwarjit Paintal, Yamini Singh have been rock solid in their performances. Sandeep Rajora who makes a comeback to TV, has probably bagged a beauty of a role here. He looks so natural in the role of Dr Riddesh Bhatnagar. Special mention to Shilpa Kadam who plays Gungun’s aunt. Scenes between the brother and sister pairing have also been a highlight to watch.
Overall, this is an interesting show, but will have to face the challenge of being placed at an early evening slot. Again, we reiterate, tough for even an engaging concept as this to float and sail at the challenging timeslot of 7 PM. Over to the audiences now, to react and watch or not to watch!! But the word of mouth for the show will be a decent one for sure!!
We at IWMBuzz.com credit 3.5 stars out of 5!!
