Zee TV has a series of new shows launching almost at the same time. The channel has seen to it that the viewers get a good mix of genres and story plots. Aggar Tum Na Hote, Tere Bina Jiya Jaye Naa, Kashibai Bajirao Ballal are the new launches on the channel.
Aggar Tum Na Hote is an unconventional love story wherein the lead girl carries the uncanny knack of healing the male lead with her care and affection. The show depicts the love story of a patient and a nurse.
Himanshu Soni and Simaran Kaur play the lead roles of Abhimanyu and Niyati. The show is produced by Naad Films, Mahesh Pandey Productions and Pixx Entertainment helmed by Jatin Sethi, Mahesh Pandey and Piyush Gupta.
The tale of a patient and nurse is not new at all!! Remember the classic 1970 film Khamoshi which had Waheeda Rehman playing the affectionate nurse who fails to keep her professional life away from her personal life and falls in love with her patient? Dharmendra as the patient and Waheeda as the nurse brought about a riveting and emotional love saga.
Aggar Tum Na Hote’s basic plot reminds us of this classic black and white film. But the similarity starts and ends there probably, as Aggar Tum Na Hote is packed with an intriguing plot that also caters to the suspense that is kept under wraps. The channel and makers have promoted Aggar Tum Na Hote as a romantic show with a twist.
There’s a hidden past in the life of the female lead Niyati. Her parents have not told her about it, and keep lamenting about the fact that she can never be married owing to her past.
Niyati who is an affectionate and able nurse bumps into lover boy Abhimanyu. Their first meetup though does not give any indication of the mental trauma and illness that Abhimanyu faces. Perhaps, Abhimanyu always needs a trigger point with which his mental illness comes to the fore. In the first appearance, Abhimanyu comes across as a smart boy full of energy and vigour.
However, we later get to know of him having eloped from his house six months back and that he carries a mental instability that gives him anxiety attacks that make him aggressive to the core.
Destiny paves way for Niyati to get to know of Abhimanyu’s problem via his mother. This leads to Niyati deciding to treat Abhimanyu at the hospital where she works.
At the hospital, Niyati is working under a very strict psychiatrist Dr Anand (Tushar Chawla). He has a silent love for Niyati and believes that he can confess his feelings to her one day.
The first week has not seen much of a story movement. Makers have invested time in emphasizing the illness of the male lead in the initial episodes. Even with the slow progress in the story plot, the scenes have been engaging.
The cinematography is acceptable. Since much of the drama is expected to happen in the hospital, a lot of impetus has been given to the premise which looks good enough.
Moving to the performances, we have to accept that there is a bit of disappointment that we face concerning the leads. Himanshu Soni looks really dashing in the role. He is a good actor and we have seen enough proof of it. However, in the role of Abhimanyu, he seems to have got his emotions a bit off-target. Probably credit and benefit of the doubt have to be given to his character here, as Abhimanyu is said to be unpredictable owing to his ill mental health.
Simaran Kaur, however, has to work a lot on her dialogue delivery. It comes across as though she is emphasizing too much in her dialogues, and it is visible to the layman. The opening scene where she is talking to her nurse friend was very mediocre. Even in the scene where Niyati meets Abhimanyu amid the pouring rain, it felt as though Simaran was trying too hard to match the energy of Himanshu in the scene. Early days though, and this can get better!!
Tushar Chawla is decent as Dr Anand. Anita Kulkarni is apt as the mother.
Mahesh Pandey is known to have given television some unconventional love stories and we believe the team of Aggar Tum Na Hote can deliver the same!!
Zee TV needs a big show which will again propel it to the top, with shows like Kundali Bhagya and Kumkum Bhagya tapering down the TRP chart.
Overall, Aggar Tum Na Hote is certainly a new concept for TV, but not something we have never seen!! Yes, the intrigue factor in the plot keeps us on tenterhooks. We only hope that the element of suspense is big enough to give this romantic tale a huge boost.
