Zee TV’s new show Sanjog which is produced by Rashmi Sharma Productions has had a good start. The show has an engrossing storyline wherein the paths of two contrasting personalities of Amrita and Gauri get entangled. While Amrita longs to become a mother, Gauri gets blessed for the third time when she gets pregnant. For Amrita, it is a dream come true when she gets pregnant. However, not all is well in her marital life with Rajiv.
Rajiv who loves Amrita’s best friend Rakshita, decides to leave Amrita and announces the news of divorcing her. However, destiny takes a new turn when Amrita is found to be pregnant. Rajiv is ready to ditch Rakshita for his wife and kid.
The story has so far shown the elements of selfless love, and infidelity in marriage and also has touched upon the stress that married women undergo when they do not get pregnant soon after marriage.
Shefali Sharma plays the sophisticated doting wife while Kamya Punjabi is her total contrast, the street-smart thief who complies with her husband and mother in looting rich people.
The story plot and narrative have a lot of drama and keep viewers hooked. The chemistry between the brother and sister, Alok and Amrita are also touchy and emotional, especially when Amrita gets pregnant after getting to hear about Rajiv filing for divorce.
On the other hand, the bond that Gopal and Gauri share as a couple is breathtaking. They are hand in hand in their job of looting, and even shower all love on each other.
The first week’s drama has seen it all!! Rajiv has come a full circle in his behaviour, and has shown how self-centred he is as an individual. Amrita seems to be finding fault in herself, as she is ready to fight a new struggle of changing things all over again in her marital life with Rajiv. It will be all the more interesting considering that the main plot has Amrita and Gauri’s daughters getting swapped owing to certain reasons and inheriting certain strong traits of their respective mothers.
Coming to performances, Kamya Punjabi and Rajat Dahiya are a standout. Kamya who earlier attempted a very different role of Preeto in Shakti Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, has picked up this challenge of playing the protagonist with both hands. She is living the character to the ‘T’. Her look further enhances her versatility as a performer. Rajat Dahiya shows immense capability in this role with a difference.
Shefali Sharma is good as a silent and accepting wife. Rajniesh Duggall as Rajiv can do better by showcasing more of his emotions on his face. Vaishali Takkar is as usual good in the character provided to her. Ishaan Singh Manhas exhibits great poise in his uniform-clad avatar. His scenes with Shefali have come across well. Dolly Mattoo as the mother comes across really well. Her confrontational sequences with Shefali gave a strong impact on the narrative.
Sonya Ayodhya is perhaps continuing from where she left in her earlier show Sirf Tum. She was the best friend of the lead girl, who tried to woo the man in Sirf Tum. Here too, the scenario is very much the same. She is Amrita’s best friend who has been cheating on her for three years, by having a silent affair with Amrita’s husband. Sonya can do better when it comes to choosing her roles. Maybe, she can take a cue from her co-actor Kamya Punjabi on choosing roles?
As for the concept, it is a mixture of many seen-before concepts on TV. An extramarital affair is quite common in TV shows. The problems between a couple owing to the incapability of becoming parents are also seen before. But what will make this show interesting is the manner in which the lives of Amrita and Gauri will get entangled after their kids get swapped. We are waiting for this phase in the storyline to see how the makers tackle this tough concept.
It will be interesting to see if Amrita will have a graph forward from placing blind faith in her husband, to being a woman living her life on her norms.
So far, the narrative has been absorbing. The progress of the story thrives heavily on how the plot owing to the kids’ upbringing will be brought up.
