Durga – Mata Ki Chhaya the new Star Bharat presentation produced by Rashmi Sharma Productions is the tale of a young boy Dev (Avinash Mishra) who has been made into a mentally unstable person by her aunt Damini Aneja (Rakshanda Khan).

The plot is not new at all, and when we talk of a mentally challenged male lead, our thoughts are immediately connected to Varun Badola’s explicit performance in the show Koshish Ek Asha.

So we can say that the plot of Durga is actually the old wine presented to viewers in a brand new package.

The basic difference here is that the negative person is revealed from scene 1, with the motive very clearly coming across.

Dev’s parents Avinash Aneja and Aarti Aneja are killed in a car accident. And this has left a severe dent in young Dev’s mind.

Alok Aneja (Mehul Buch), the younger brother of the dead Avinash Aneja remarries and brings with him the tyrant in Damini Aneja. Damini joins hands with the eldest brother of the house Amrish Aneja (Sai Ballal) in taking the upper hand in the house, which also includes the scheming mind of lessening the mental intellect of Dev by giving him regular shock treatments.

The family has Samarth Aneja (Sailesh Gulabani) and his wife Ketki Aneja (Kajal Pisal), Aayush Aneja (Vikram Mehra) and his wife Neetu Aneja (Yashahsree Chiplunkar). Samarth and Aayush are the step-sons of Damini. Damini has one daughter Tara Aneja (Simran Budharup) who is the only good-hearted person who fights with her mother Damini for her brother Dev.

On the other hand, we have Durga (Chahat Pandey) who hails from Gurdaspur. She is a devoted and religious girl singing in Jagrathas for her family’s earning. She has a unique connect with Dev. Whenever Dev is tortured or is in pain, she feels the pain acutely and this makes her wonder what her connect is with the man she sees in her images.

She is made to understand by the family priest that she was born for a special cause. After seeing her kundali, he believes that she will be married into a rich household, away from the village, where she will be the saviour of her husband. Her duty for life will be to protect her husband from evil. Though Durga has not seen Dev yet, she knows that he is in terrible pain, with his life being under continuous threat.

Well, the plot of the show is not new at all. We have seen many shows now, wherein the male lead is mentally challenged, and the girl comes into his life as a blessing in disguise.

The only tweak in the otherwise normal plot is the fact that there is a girl here who senses the pain and torture of the man. This connect is what happens between twins. But Indian Television has now brought it between two individuals who are bound to marry and protect each other.

The cards have been laid out open, with Damini Aneja and Amrish Aneja being the main negatives, greedy for the property that will be named after Dev soon.

The performances in the show are brilliant. Avinash Mishra aces it as the mentally challenged Dev. Rakshanda Khan as the terrorizing Damini is perfect for the role. Sai Ballal is doing a good job. Chahat Pandey is cute in her role, but she has to work really out of her skin to prove herself. We are looking for the scenes where Durga will meet Dev, and when Durga will come face to face with the terror called Damini.

Producer Rashmi Sharma knows the pulse of the viewers very well. She has it in her to churn a brand new package from the otherwise usual plot.

However, only time will say if the viewers are eager enough to watch similar plots again and again!!

We at IWMBuzz.com credit Durga – Mata Ki Chhaya with 2 stars out of 5 stars.
