Review of Star Bharat’s Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya 2: Nostalgic memories revived with a gripping plot

Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya 2 the Star Bharat show is reviewed.

Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya 2 the new offering on Star Bharat brings back memories of the past, and takes us back in time by nine long years. The first edition of Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya was a success story packed with a brilliant script, amazing acting and enjoyable characterizations. Krishna’s aggressive flair, coupled with Pratigya’s innocence which later changes into a behaviour to revolt, made for an interesting watch. There has never been a unique love story on Indian Television as that of Krishna and Pratigya’s, and that remains a fact. And now, the new season of Pratigya comes with its gripping storyline and the best part about Pratigya 2 is the added flavour of intrigue in its plot.

The first episode is spectacular, and nobody could have predicted Pratigya 2 to open up with the shocking accident at the hands of the small kid of Pratigya and Krishna, Garv. The fun prank played on Garv by his cousins ended up killing a young boy, who happens to be the son of the money-beefed powerful persona, Balwant Tyagi (Chetan Hansraj). The episode is nail-biting to tell you more, as Garv confides in Krishna about what exactly happened. Krishna is startled when he reaches the spot wherein a huge crowd and police have gathered up. The scenes where Krishna goes to the hospital to find out what happened to the kid, his getting to know of the death and also seeing a wave of shock overcoming the parents of the dead kid, were amazingly captured.

Krishna’s fear and anxiety has been piling up with every passing moment and all of that ends in Krishna getting into his old aggressive self and slapping Pratigya in front of outsiders. This creates a furore in the house with Pratigya, the independent lady who demands all the self-respect with her sincerity and righteousness getting hurt.

The interactions of the Singh family with the Tyagi family have been really interesting. Starting from the scene wherein Balwant Tyagi’s wife berates Pratigya, to the ones between Tyagi and Pratigya, have been stunning. It comes as a shocker when Krishna gets to know that his own wife Pratigya has taken up the case from Balwant Tyagi’s side. The mistake from Krishna’s side happens when he spots the spectacles of Garv at Tyagi residence and takes it with him. This gives Balwant Tyagi proof enough of realizing that there is a connect between a kid and his son’s death.

Moving on, the scene at the temple between Pratigya and Krishna is emotional to the core. Pratigya’s silence to every question that Krishna throws at her, only increases the differences between Krishna and Pratigya.

Moving on, it is nostalgic to see the family of Sajjan Singh in action again. Everyone in the family has simply picked their nuances from where they had left it and have moved forward in a better and classy way. Sajjan Singh has grown old, but has not lost his cheekiness for what he is known for. Sajjan’s equation with Pratigya is fascinating to watch. Sajjan salvages the situation when Pratigya is about to leave home after getting slapped by Krishna.

On the other hand, we get to see the ruthlessness and aggressiveness of the Tyagi brothers, Balwant Tyagi and Dhaara Tyagi (Athar Siddiqui). They have taken the battle on their hands to find the culprit and kill the person. The more Pratigya gets dragged into the case as the Public Prosecutor, it is becoming tougher for Krishna to handle things and keep his cool. The narrative will only get interesting from hereon, with the battle lines getting drawn.

Coming to performances, everything and everyone in the show has been superlative with respect to performances. Pooja Gor and Arhaan Behll are natural in the process of having matured with age and experience. Anupam Shyam is again at his best as Sajjan Singh. Chetan Hansraj is a revelation as Balwant Tyagi. Asmita Sharma, Aalika Shaikh, Parvati Sehgal are carrying forward their nuances in a very good way. Sachal Tyagi is a very good introduction, and his class as an actor is proved in the sequence where he is excited at the fact that Krishna slapped Pratigya. Shivani Gosain has gotten a role that she has perhaps never got in her career so far. Athar Siddiqui as the terrorizing Dhaara gives us goosebumps.

The cinematography is brilliant with the Prayaag Raaj shown really well. The introduction scene in the boat, the temple sequence have been amazing. The accident sequence is shot well.

With Pearl Grey back at the helm with the storyline, this time as the Writer, Creative Producer and Showrunner, the show ought to move at the right pace. Rajan Shahi as Producer along with his team brings in the amazing production values that have always been on display in a Director’s Kut show.

The only difference this time is that the show airs on Star Bharat. The channel does not have the reach that Star Plus enjoys. Hence there will be a clear drop in the kind of ratings that this show gets and is capable of getting. But thinking positively, the audience that has watched Pratigya will surely get back, irrespective of the channel airing it. Also, the newer audience will come in and sample the show, only to find it interesting.

Good word of mouth will certainly help the show.
