Teri Laadli Main the new Star Bharat show produced by Panorama Entertainment highlights the major issue prevalent in today’s society of gender discrimination.
Though the city-bred people have come to terms with the fact that women are in no way inferior to men in confidence, education and in their profession, the rural background of our country suffers even today with this pessimistic outlook.
Ghastly are the ideas and thoughts of the main man in the show, Surendar (Pankaj B Singh). He believes that a girl child is good for nothing and does all that he can to kill the girl child growing in the womb of his wife Urmila (Hemangi Kavi). The result of his illegitimate deed results in his daughter Bitti being born dumb.
The trials and tribulations of the mother in rising up her two daughters amid the fondness and bias given to the boy growing in the same household are indeed painful.
The pain with which Bitti grows, having been discarded by her father to the extent of not being given his name is indeed cruel to see.
Though the makers have tried their best to give a realistic feel to the whole concept, the question of whether the viewers of today, who are slowly trying to mould themselves according to the changing time, will accept the story or not is a big question mark.
We have seen so many young girls making a mark in the profession they have chosen. Agreed, there is even now a sect of people who believe in this age-old philosophy of the daughter of the house only being a burden. But will it be a concept to be watched keenly on television? This is the thought process that viewers will answer and will result in the outcome as per its numbers.
As for the performances, Hemangi Kavi is good in her role. Pankaj B Singh who is a very good actor has huge scope in this role.
The story has not yet taken the generation leap. Hence the entries of leads Gaurav Wadhwa and Mayuri Kapadane have not happened.
Actors Mehul Nisar, Neena Cheema, Neelima Singh, Rudra Kaushik are putting up a good display.
The narrative has already introduced Akshat’s mother suffering from a mental disorder, wherein she cannot tolerate the presence of anything that is defective placed before her. So the story is set for Akshat and Bitti’s love story, thus creating more troubles for Bitti. Her would-be-mother-in-law hates to see defects, and Bitti who is dumb is born with a disorder.
Teri Laadli Main is no doubt a realistic plot, but does not base its theory on a progressive concept. Of course, the journey will be of Bitti who will face these hardships and probably overcome them too. But only time will tell whether the story will be accepted overall, by the bigger section of viewers seeing TV.
We credit 2 stars out of five for Teri Laadli Main.
