Indian television industry is ruled by women: Priyamvada Kant

Priyamvada Kant talks about women power in TV industry…

Enchanting beauty Priyamvada Kant, who is known for her powerful roles in Sasural Simar Ka, Ek Veer Ki Ardaas…Veera, Swim Team and Tenali Rama, believes that TV shows revolve around women.

She says, “I believe the Indian television industry is the only industry which is ruled by women. It is led by women and also viewed mostly by women. It makes me feel empowered to work in this industry, to be honest… the feminist in me is at peace working here. Women get paid more than men in this TV industry. Barring a few male actors, it’s a woman’s world.”

Talking about the payment structure in our industry, she avers, “Most of the TV shows revolve around women since the content is women centric. They are more popular and also get paid more. More often, I have got paid more than my male co-actors starring opposite me. I really think television actor’s payment structure is more dependent on credibility than any kind of gender bias. Women are the face of Indian television and it’s undebatable. Not just actors. it’s the female producers who are the front runners as well. We have strong feisty women producers like Ekta Kapoor, Rashmi Sharma, Roopali Kadyan proving that men need to buck up and match up to us in this industry.”

She further adds, “Indian television is ruled by bahus, betis, maa and saas. Hence, the men need to work hard to find their ground. Money depends purely on your credibility here. I am glad to be a part of this industry ruled by women.”

More power to women!
