Controversial actor, Ajaz Khan, was granted bail by the Esplanade Court in Mumbai in the TikTok video case filed against him by the Mumbai police. The actor was released on a surety of Rs 1 lakh.

Readers may recall that Khan had been arrested by the Mumbai police on charges of spreading enmity between religious groups and fanning communal discord with an inflammatory video he allegedly created and posted on TikTok.

As we all know, TikTok is a wildly popular video-sharing app used by millions of impressionable youngsters for their daily dose of entertainment. The potential for inciting youngsters and creating trouble by posting inflammatory content on TikTok is therefore quite high.

The objectionable videos had already gone viral before the police stepped in to initiate damage control.

Mumbai police had slapped several charges against the actor – IPC Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race etc);IPC Section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention); and Section 67 of the IT Act (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).

After his arrest, a city court had remanded Ajaz Khan to 14 days judicial custody on Saturday. His lawyer had demanded his immediate release citing various reasons, but his demand met with a negative response from the court.

Finally, the court heard his appeal and actor was granted bail on Monday afternoon on a surety of 1 lakh INR.
