Channels and their related hit shows are a huge property. And so are the lead actors in every big show. There are many popular actors on television today, who have gotten a lot of stardom, fan growth and popularity, albeit one successful show on one big channel. When such a thing happens, the star too gains all the limelight and mileage. When such successful shows end or the lead actor (with all popularity) gets free, he /she becomes the centre of attraction for other channels to cash in and create room to make space for the star in one of their new shows.
This channel shift of popular actors has been a trend that has been observed every now and then. So today, we at IWMBuzz.com list out the actors who have immediately garnered all the mileage after a successful show on a channel, and have been taken up by another channel in a meaty lead role.

Salman Khan: There was a time when the mighty big Salman Khan was the face of Sony TV. He used to host 10 Ka Dum the reality show and was a charmer on the set. The show had three successful seasons with Salman being the face of the show. However, after this, Salman Khan became a hot-shot face on Colors with him hosting Bigg Boss. Today, after many successful seasons, Salman Khan and the controversial reality show on Colors, Bigg Boss are kind of inseparable.
Hina Khan: The charming actress was extremely raw when she was drawn in by Rajan Shahi to play the lead in Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. As Akshara, Hina became a household name. She was loved and adored by fans all over. The show was also a big learning curve for Hina, and she emerged as a good learner. After she opted out of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, she was charmed by a lucrative offer from Colors for its reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 8, and followed it up with Bigg Boss 11. Hina in fact, has been taken up by Star Plus and Colors periodically. After her reality show stints, Star got Hina back for Kasautii Zindagi Kay 2 as Komolika. However, she was again back on Colors for Naagin 5. This is what is called sheer star power!! What say, folks?
Dheeraj Dhoopar: He has been one of the biggest faces on Zee TV for years till recently. Dheeraj has had a great time playing the role of Karan Luthra in Kundali Bhagya. After being in the show for as many as five years, Dheeraj wanted to opt out to look for greener pastures. Immediately, offers started pouring in for the actor, and it was Colors who won him over with its new show Sherdil Shergill. Now he will be seen playing Rajkumar in the new show which starts soon.
Avinesh Rekhi: Avinesh Rekhi has predominantly been a face on Colors with Chhal – Sheh aur Maat, Madhubala being his top ones. Later came Choti Sarrdaarni the biggie show into his kitty. Avinesh thrived as the very dedicated husband Sarabjit Singh Gill. He was an epitome of politeness and respect. However, when Avinesh had to exit the show owing to the generation leap, Avinesh was quickly taken up by Zee TV for its next biggie, Tere Bina Jiya Jaye Naa. Avinesh charmed all as the royal prince, Devraj in the show. Now, it will be interesting to see which channel absorbs him for his next.
Shivangi Joshi: She was again the face of Star Plus, playing the role of Naira in the second generation story of Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. Her onscreen chemistry with Mohsin Khan was humongous with the show grabbing all the limelight. As soon as Shivangi exited from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai with the third generation story starting, it was Colors who won the race to pick Shivangi. She was chosen as the lead in Balika Vadhu 2. Now she is retained by the channel for Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 12. It will be interesting to see if Colors offers a new show to Shivangi.
Iqbal Khan: Iqbal Khan played the lead in Colors’ Nima Denzongpa. He was roped into the story when the plot saw a twist to become a love story. Nima and Virat created magic in quick time. However, when the show was declared to be ending, Iqbal was immediately offered the Star Bharat show Na Umra Ki Seema Ho and even grabbed the lead role. But it was a pity that Nima Denzongpa too got a small extension. This only meant that Iqbal could not continue with the Colors show as he had already committed to the new show. Again, this only shows the actor’s worth and demand!!
Mohit Malik: Mohit Malik got extremely popular for his show on Star Plus Kulfi Kumar Bajewala. His role of Sikandar Singh Gill was a household name. After this show ended, Star Plus offered him Lockdown Ki Love Story. However, Mohit was quick to be taken up by Colors for Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 12 and then a web series on Voot, Cyber Vaar. It will be interesting to see whether Mohit remains with Colors or gets grabbed by Star again.
Nakuul Mehta: Nakuul Mehta who is even today known for his portrayal of Shivaay Singh Oberoi in Ishqbaaaz, went on to be a part of Dil Boley Oberoi too on Star Plus. However, post this, it has been Sony TV which gave him the prized role of Ram Kapoor in Bade Achhe Laggte Hain 2.
Well, our list of the popular actor shifts between channels reads like this. The very recent example has been Paras Kalnawat who was the younger generation face in Star Plus’ Anupamaa. He was offered Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa by Colors. Even Shabir Ahluwalia who decided to quit Kumkum Bhagya on Zee TV, was offered prized roles by other channels. He was almost finalized to play the lead in a Star Bharat show but it was Zee TV’s another lucrative offer that held him back with Zee with the show Pyar Ka Pehla Naam Radha Mohan.
Well, this is an emerging trend and there will be add-ons to this list with every new show coming!!
